It's important to note that not everyone with borderline traits exhibits every symptom. The disorder exists on a spectrum, and individuals may display some traits strongly while other traits are absent or less prominent.
A personal account sheds light on how these traits manifest in real life. A woman described her childhood environment, where her mother's volatility was apparent despite a seemingly "normalized" household. Her mother’s outbursts could occur suddenly and intensely, with no warning, leaving her children confused and alarmed. These episodes included shouting, swearing, and slamming objects, often followed by forgetting or dismissing the incident.
