The Cost and Quality of Colbear's Show
The financial aspect of Colbear’s late-night show has also come under scrutiny. Costing an estimated $100 million a year to produce, it was hemorrhaging approximately $40 million annually. As a commercial enterprise, this makes the show a prime example of a loss leader—an expensive venture unlikely to sustain in the long term, especially as viewer tastes shift.
Furthermore, asset of the show’s quality was often debated. Many felt the production did not justify its costs, and the content suffered from Colbear’s own pompous and self-important presentation style. His monologues and interviews often felt more like ideological sermons than entertainment—something that conflicted with the typical late-night format.
