Part 2/15:

Jim Sherlock grew up on Chicago's South Side, in the Marquette Park neighborhood, an area historically associated with civil rights marches yet also marred by violence. Coming from a family deeply rooted in law enforcement—his great-grandfather, grandfather, father, and uncle all served as Chicago police officers—Jim was drawn to police work from a young age.

His early brush with violence at age 14, when he was robbed and stabbed, left an indelible mark. A remarkable incident ensued when his father called the police, and he found himself face to face with seasoned officers in his father's garage, who assured him that they’d handle the offenders. This personal event cemented his desire to join the force.
