The Tone: An Overcorrection of Seriousness
James Gunn’s usual style — blending humor with seriousness — is evident here but feels inconsistent. Moments where the film attempts to take itself seriously are often instantly undercut by jokes or comedic beats, resulting in a tone that can come across as unbalanced or superficial. This approach seems to be an intentional overcorrection after previous darker iterations of Superman, such as Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, with a shift toward emphasizing fun and goofy escapades.
