Connelly Early: The Rookie Phenomenon
Another bright spot is Connelly Early, a fifth-round pick out of Virginia who made a stunning MLB debut in September. Early's first start featured 11 strikeouts in five innings, and in his first two outings, he totaled 18 strikeouts over 10.1 innings with only one earned run allowed. His dominance against the Oakland A's made history; he's the first pitcher since 1893 to record at least 10 innings pitched with 18 strikeouts, one or fewer walks, and one or fewer runs over his first two starts.
