Over months of collaboration, Simmons, Kenney, and collaborators like Chris Miller and Harold Ramis pooled their collective experiences and memories of college life, drawing inspiration from their own fraternity experiences. They crafted characters based on archetypes familiar to anyone who had attended college—specifically, the "animal types" from Animal House: Otter, Flounder, Pinto, and others—each representing familiar college personalities. These characters embodied the energy, rebellion, and chaos that typified campus life, making them relatable and authentic.
