While many associate noir with crime stories and detective tales, the style’s vocabulary can be applied broadly. For instance:
Sunset Boulevard (though not a murder mystery) shares noir’s themes of obsession, decay, and moral ambiguity.
Citizen Kane, with its use of shadows, inner monologue, and moral complexity, is often discussed in relation to noir, albeit with a more modern feel.
Even Casablanca contains noir elements like shadows and morally ambiguous characters, though it doesn’t strictly fit the stylistic mold.
