Elemental debuted to a domestic box office of approximately $29.5 million, marking the worst opening for a Pixar film in the studio’s entire history—adjusted for inflation—and even when not corrected for it. To put this into perspective, the opening weekend for Toy Story in 1995 was nearly identical at $29.1 million. Despite the changes in the industry and the growth of Pixar’s brand, Elemental has essentially matched the debut performance of the original Toy Story in a less favorable market environment.
