Part 5/11:
After three weeks in theaters, The Little Mermaid has demonstrated that initial support was not enough to sustain its momentum. According to recent box office reports, the film has grossed approximately $228 million domestically. While this might seem significant at first glance, the numbers tell a different story when considering the film’s hefty production and marketing budgets.
The film reportedly cost around $250 million in production and an additional $140 million in marketing, estimating a total expense of roughly $390 million. To break even and turn a profit, Disney would need the film to earn somewhere around $750-800 million worldwide, factoring in theater cuts and ancillary revenue.
