Much of the current dissatisfaction, according to Gunn and many fans, stems from wokeness and identity politics infiltrating Hollywood storytelling. When characters and stories are crafted primarily through the lens of social agendas rather than entertainment and character development, the end result often disappoints audiences seeking escapism and inspiration.
Gunn asserts that people want to see these characters for what they are: symbols of heroism, hope, and resilience. Instead, by pushing agendas and pandering, filmmakers weaken these characters' appeal and dilute the stories’ emotional core.
