Social media platforms have amplified this culture, enabling mobs—often anonymous—to target individuals for their comments, however innocuous. The strategy appears to be simple: say or do something that doesn’t align perfectly with the prevailing social justice narrative, and risk being labeled a transphobe, bigot, or worse. The pressure then mounts on the individual to apologize—sometimes excessively—especially if they wish to avoid career damage or personal harassment.
