I manage things by making sure i am at 100% VP at the beginning of the day.
Meaning 94-96% VP when i go to sleep.
And then i adjust the amount i give in voting for everyone.
My nemisis is in voting for responses.
Because you need to get over 2.1¢ else the vote will be useless.
That can drag my VP down quite quick.

Yup, recovering VP, growing HP, changing curation habits, stop voting comments, tip comments generously and watch that VP closely. I'm also considering delegating tokens to another account for tribal curations.
