In the effort to automate we never realized that we would lose control of the boat and we would hand it over to a machine with the ability to solve problems more easily than someone of flesh and blood!

Very true although there are many issuing warnings and actually taking some action. The entire Brain-to-Computer Interface research is meant to keep humanity up to speed with AI.
It actually looks like it will help. A bit part is to get passed the invasive aspect of having to drill into the brain. At some point, I believe they will be able to do it by attracting things externally.

Elon also has something to do with one of his companies, they are successfully manipulating branches of the cerebral cortex and they are doing it better and better!
