Sports Betting Blockchain Projects | January 2021 Report

in LeoFinance3 years ago

I try to stay up to date with all the latest news and developments from Blockchain Projects that offer Sports Betting making a report each month with my personal experience and insights on how this space is evolving.

At the moment, my activity in placing bets is far less compared to what it used to be mostly just sticking to what I know and beat which is the Belgian Jupiler League. The first reason is that the betting markets have become more efficient and a lot harder to beat. The entire premise of sitting back and following a bunch of tipsters from closed forums or paid services building volume that way is just not what it used to be. The 2nd reason is that my time is limited and I'm much busier with Crypto these days. So even though I in particular try to follow the crypto betting projects, there hasn't really been anything that can rival Sportmarket Pro which is my betting broker who offers far better odds and a much smoother user experience compared to any of the blockchain alternatives. In the end, lower margins so it's possible to get better returns is the main feature I'm looking for. The only one so far that had the potential was betscorum but there has been no development whatsoever and it is left for dead without any users anymore. Wagerr has potential but also still some issues along with all of those that run on Ethereum because of the transaction fees.

The ones I have been most interested in for as far as investing goes are Wink.org and Sportbet.one who just offer a solution allowing anyone to bet with crypto without any KYC or personal restrictions. I occasionally take bets there myself but overall it's very limited. They do have gambling users and their losses get distributed to token holders (See Weekly report)

Market Overview

Both Bethereum and Bitbook Gambling which are projects I never really sparked my interest seem to have their coins delisted and have little to no activity whatsoever around the coins. Blitzpredict had a website that showed that they were going to put their platform to publish picks and predictions on the blockchain last September but it now also is offline. Gnosis is more about prediction markets with sports betting as a potential layer and it continues to do well with the DeFi craze. Overall not all too much happening aside from Wagerr which seems to be taking some steps forward.

This is the news that caught my eye on January along with the token price updates...

Some big updates on Wagerr in January as they had a hardfork adding Asian Handicaps and now also hosting a website where everyone can use the platform without having to go through the hassle of downloading the wallet and syncing it with the chain each time. This syncing process on the wallet also seems to have been improved a lot. I did just test out the https://wagerr.com/sportsbook website.

Creating an account is super easy, just go to https://wagerr.com/sportsbook click the Get Started link on the top right. This will give you a page where you can create an account with a single click.

You just need to write down your 12-word passphrase, make sure you have it backed up and you are ready with your own account.

Since betting can only be done with WGR, you need to deposit or buy WGR to get it in your newly created wallet. This can be done using BTC (which currently has a transaction cost of 8.8$) with a minimum of 0.002 BTC which gets you 1912 WGR (0.378$ for 1 WGR | 0.43$ incl transaction costs), you can do a normal bank wire / credit card using different FIAT currencies. 50 USD gets you 11378 WGR (0.44$ for 1 WGR).

Knowing that WGR goes for 0.038$ for 1 WGR it is quite a high premium in exchange for convenience.

So getting WGR on your account despite the fact that it is really easy still is a huge hassle because of the transaction fees and the premium price of buying it on the platform vs one of the unknown exchanges or Uniswap which is impossible unless you are a whale because of the fees. I did have some WGR on the wallet on my PC and sending it over is really easy, quick and cheap so no real issues there.

There are frequent giveaways on the @Wagerrx Twitter account for everyone that has an account made on https://wagerr.com/sportsbook

I continue to monitor the WGR supply month by month since the WGR of winning bets get minted while losing bets get burned making it possible that bettors actually crush the bookie making the supply go up which seems to be what is happening. The supply increase according to explorer.wagerr.com was around 780k WGR which comes at players winning 28,000$ in total last month. I also started tracking the total amount of WGR bet since the platform went live.
