It seems the hot topic right now is the new number added to our blog page, called the KE or Rewards/Stake Coefficient. This was recently introduced on the PeakD frontend and can be found just below or beside your profile or username.
Created using Sora
For now, it's just a number—there isn't much information provided when you hover over it. However, I believe PeakD will soon add an explanation so that those unfamiliar with it can gain a basic understanding.
I’ve come across it a few times, either hearing people talk about it or reading comments that mention it, but I haven’t fully understood what it actually means or how it might impact how people perceive their Hive accounts.
Is it a good thing?
Is it bad?
Is it just a nuisance?
Is it meant to encourage you to stake your Hive?
Or is it not a big deal at all?
I'm honestly not sure, since each of us may interpret this new information differently based on our own experiences with Hive. I'm also a bit puzzled and curious about what others think, which is why I posted a quick snap about it:
"Just noticed PeakD is already showing the KE score. Mine is not perfect but it’s okay compared to some 😂."
"How do you feel about the new number shown on your blog page?"
I was surprised to see that this snap got more attention and comments than most of my other posts. That’s when I realized just how relevant this topic is right now. Reading through the comments, it became clear that people have mixed reactions. Some are clueless about it, some seem to view it negatively, while others are already offering advice on how to improve your KE score—mainly by staking more Hive.
Although the name Rewards/Stake Coefficient sounds a bit technical, the concept behind it is quite simple:
Just divide the total of your author and curation rewards by your Hive Power.
If you power up (stake) your Hive rewards, the score improves.
On the other hand, if you power down or leave a portion of your rewards in liquid form, the score decreases.
So what’s the ideal or baseline score? I would guess it’s 1.00, which would mean that you've powered up an amount of Hive equivalent to your combined author and curation rewards. A score of 1.00 or lower might suggest that you're a true supporter of the Hive blockchain—but I’m adding a question mark there because I’m not entirely sure if that’s the intended interpretation.
At this point, I’m still unclear on how much of the Hive ecosystem this KE score actually reflects, or whether it’s something we should take seriously. After all, we’ve had the Reputation Score for a long time, and while it’s meant to signal someone’s standing in the community, it’s not always taken seriously because it doesn’t necessarily reflect a person’s actual reputation.
In the end, the KE score is just one of many metrics on the Hive blockchain, and how much weight we give it is up to each of us. Whether you see it as motivation to stake more Hive or simply another number on your profile, it's worth observing how the community responds over time. As with anything new, staying informed and open-minded is the best approach.
I like it. But I am not gonna judge if I will be upvoting someone just based on their KE score. I will also try to check if that person is writing and commenting often and with effort and is trying to add value that way.
Yesss exactly! Metrics like KE are cool, but real value comes from how ppl show up—whether it's posts, comments, or just engaging.
Respect the hustle more than the numbers 💪 Thx for sharin!
Yes. KE doesn't tell why a person powered down his stake. But even if a person was in a financial emergency he still can add value by investing his time and effort.
Glad we on the same page 💯 thx for droppin ur thoughts!
Greetings @curamax ,
Thank you for your thoughtful, well written post. Well done.
I would hope that there are many who will make their own curation decisions without sole regard to the KE number. We should feel free to do with our earnings as we wish without being apologetic.
Who knows when at any given time...any one of us...may need to power down....we don't know and I would be sorry to see Hive become dependent on that particular metric for decision making. People can bring value to Hive in other ways besides HP and do...Some have tremendous talent, others engage, etc.
Personally I appreciate privacy, anonymity here at Hive. Through this implementation of yet more billboard type declaration....it seems I have lost privacy. Yes..I know it is available information...but now it is hung on one's neck/avatar. A little while ago, it was a bee symbol attached to one's avatar, thankfully it is able to be hidden.
We, collectively, are hopefully here to showcase what we have to offer....and get to know others through mutual respect for that talent, that craft, etc....not based on whether you fit a certain rigid criteria for approval.
Thank you for your kind query.
Kind Regards,
Bleujay
Thank you for that super kind and thoughtful reply dear @bleujay 🙏
You made so many good points. I really agree—Hive is so much more than numbers and stats. It’s about creativity, connection, and freedom to choose how we engage. And yeah, I feel u on the privacy bit... just cuz the info is public doesn’t mean it needs to be plastered all over our profile 😅
Thanks again for sharing with such grace 💙
Heyy 👋 thx for stoppin by!
It's one of those "it depends" things, really, isn't it.
There are a fair number of people on Hive — in parts of the world that experience regular economic turmoil — who substantially depend on some/all their Hive rewards simply to get by in life... will people become biased against them, simply because they can't afford to stake all their earnings?
The "slippery slope" for me is people putting too much emphasis on the (low) KE as a basis for their vote/engagement choices... by extension, channeling more rewards towards those who already have a lot.
Oh... wait... that's how the whole world works, right?
=^..^=
Yeah totally—it does depend. Everyone’s situation is diff, especially folks who rely on Hive income just to get by. I def feel u on the “slippery slope”... if ppl start judgin others based on a number like KE, it could end up just favoring the big fish.
Let’s hope the community stays fair & open-minded 🙏
Appreciate the thoughtful comment.
Initially I thought it was an offline calculation. Didn't know they included it in peak setting. I agree with quite a number of things you've mentioned. But let's see how the community move with the inclusion of this.
Kinda caught me off guard when it popped up on PeakD 😂 Curious to see how ppl react long term. Thx for droppin by!
So... a high KE means that you earn a lot of author rewards compare to what you stake, whereas a low KE means you are staking (and supporting) more than earning as author.
Yeah that’s a pretty clear way to see it. Low KE = more staking, high KE = maybe more cashing out than powering up. But that doesn’t tell the whole story. Context is key. Thx for breakin it down 👌
Yeah, and both are good in a sense.
It's important we support high KE individuals. They provide the content that keep the blogs alive and they deserve rewards, but that also cannot be done with more low KE accounts who are more investors. A healthy balance of all types of accounts is good
Greetings,
I see the KE coefficient as a reminder of the importance to stake Hive on the wallet. If an author has a need of fund and his or her KE coefficient go up above 2 you will have this number right there to let the owner strive to stake its coming rewards in order to fill the gap created.
It is not the only parameters that you should be used to make any actions, whether it is support the content or not.
Peace
Yeah true that—KE can be a lil nudge to stake more, but shouldn't be a main reason ppl get judged. Everyone’s got their own needs n goals. Good to keep a balanced view.
Peace ✌️ and thanks for commenting!
well said it all depends on the individual and how personal they take this new information.
I'm curious how do you feel about it, I would appreciate if you share your thoughts as well.
Well for me i believe Everyone has the right to make use of his earnings in whatever he please and some might be going through some life challenges or having hive as a sustainable income because of some poor economy in countries, so definitely those folks KE wont be looking good. the jerk is that other folks might use it to discouraged others in terms of restricting their vote on post because the person isnt having a good KE. we've been doing well with the reputation number so far on hive. its a mix feeling though i just hope this wont cause some lost of opportunities to struggling folks here on hive.
This is exactly an aspect of Hive that KE is not representing fully since each and everyone look/use their Hive tokens differently.
For some it's an investment while for some it's an income and if one take profit then it will reflect badly to their KE score regardless of their contribution to the community.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Appreciate it 👍
absolutely a perfect point 👌 amd most welcome 😊
AFAIK, HBD you get from post rewards is not included. It is based on VESTS you get.
Ahh good point! Dont have the answer yet, but I gues HBD is factored in as well.
What does the peakd blog says?
Good question tbh 🤔 I’m still waitin for PeakD to drop a full post about it. So far it’s mostly guesswork + community theories 😂

Hey! Thx for the sharing my post in X.
If u got any thots on KE or the topic, feel free to jump in—would love to hear more voices on this 👀
for me the Hive tokens is yours and you can do whatever you want, take in mind that if you the need the money and you have to do a power down it doesnt mean that you are not supporting anymore hive blockchain. i think that KE is good to see spammer/farming users like the splinterland players or inleo users
I don't really see the point in it. It favours boring bloggers that just write but it fucks over the concept of a creator on here that would want to reinvest into their craft. Whether it's artists that use art supplies and want to buy more to continue, or photographers/videographers that want to upgrade their gear.
People on YouTube constantly upgrade their gear to increase the quality of what they create even if that doesn't always lead to an increase in earnings. Here that's definitely the case, it doesn't increase anything to have a fancier camera or a better mic. Hive doesn't actually care for creativity or content quality.
So all this KE stuff means is that it favours traditional blogging and not a content creation cycle. And promotes this dumb concept of punishing those that might actually be trying to either pay a few extra bills with Hive or try to upgrade their gear. Take yourself as an example, where you're using TikTok to grow and also potentially use it to increase Hive awareness through it, you'd now be considered a "leech" and likely punished for doing so if you wanted to spend some Hive earnings on a new camera.
At the same time there are people that drop thousands of Hive in a single transaction and it'll barely do anything to their KE because they either get stupid amounts of support from circles on here already. But then a smaller person that has sold an equal amount of Hive over several years and barely earns anything per post is considered the problem.
I just think we're focusing on a nonexistent problem for the most part. We should be finding ways to bridge people to Hive and keep them here, and also fix the dramatically low volume we see on exchanges due to no interest, but all this is doing is trying to limit how people use Hive and enforce the views of a select group that are already doing well. Inevitably pushing people away.
Ke does work but there are ways to get around it like @themarkymark Aka @buildawhale Aka @gogreenbuddy Aka @usainvote
