SBI was one of my favorite things about Hive, I actually got started as a fresh newbie back on Hive's predecessor... being gifted some as prizes in various newbie challenges. And I still think that is one of its best uses, as encouragement for those who are just starting out.
I know HSBI was in the doghouse for a while... but it is really a long term commitment not so called "vote buying" because it takes a large number of posts just break even. So I see it really more as an investment in a commitment to stay active!
