Hive Communities Analysis | Number of Communities Created, Top Communities by Subs, Authors and Activities

in LeoFinance4 years ago (edited)

Hive communities have been long awaited feature on the blockchain. They finally arrived officially in February 2020, but were in a test phase before that starting from October 2020.

Communities should allow users to find content of their interest easier and also post in the communities of their interest, allowing them to connect more with people alike. It should help discovering content as well.

With the media tokens update, communities can have their own tokens in the future.

Here we will be looking into the following things:

  • Number of Communities created
  • Top Users that created the most communities
  • Top Communities by number of subscribers
  • Top Communities by number of posts
  • Top Communities by number of authors

For the number of posts and authors we will be looking for a period from April 1st till June 22.

Number of Communities created

First lets see the total number of communities created with time.

02.png

As already mentioned, communities went live officially in February 2020, but they were in a test phase before that. The period above is from November 2019 till June 22, 2020. There is some small number of communities created in October but for better visibility those are left over from the chart.

We can notice that there are communities created before the official launch date, but the spike in the number of communities created is quite visible in February. On February 20, there was more than 200 communities created. Afterwards the number dropped and lately its in the range between 5 and 10 per day.
More than 1800 communities exist now on the Hive blockchain out of witch around 1200 are created after the official launch.

Top Users that created the most communities

Who is creating communities?
This doesn’t mean that it’s a good thing, since having one successful community is better than a lot not but not doing much.
Anyways its interesting to see who is creating the communities so here are the top users that created the most communities.

03.png

@threespeak is on the top here. I think this is because they implemented this future first and created some of the already existing communities out there.

Top Communities by number of subscribers

What are the top communities on the blockchain?
We will be looking at this by more than one parameter, but for starters lets take a look at the most obvious one, the number of subscribers.

Here is the chart.

04.png

@ocd comes in the first place with more than 5300 subscribers, followed by @dtube and the @gems community.
Some other know communities there as @hive.gaming, @powerhousecreative and @leofinance with more than 2000 subscribers.

Top Communities by number of posts

What about the activities in communities? Which has the highest number of posts?
Here is the chart.

05.png

As noted, the data for the number of posts in each community is from April 1 till June 22.
The no.1 community by number of posts is the @gems community followed by @actifit and @ocd.

Interesting out of the 276k posts in the period 166k are made in a community, or 60% of the total posts. Meaning authors are using them.

Top Communities by number of authors

What about the number of authors posting in the communities?

06.png

The GEMS community comes first here as well, followed by @actifit and @ocd.
These are not the overall number of authors that posted in a community but just for the period above.

Hope to see more communities and more development on this side 😊.

All the best

Yep .... I remmeber in ths first days, these numbers were counted in houndreds.

We’re moving in the right direction.

I truly believe we’ll see exponential growth in our HIVE communities

1800 communities is a lot more created than I expected. Nice to see the communities getting used by a majority of hive authors as well.

Having great communities that actively curate and engage with authors fixes one of the main problems that hive has always had. I hope to see that trend continue :)

Yep quite a lot :)
Looks like a lot are just trying things out. Hope that something will come up from so many!

Tahnks for all the stats, its really good to see the growth of all these communities :)

Interestingly, the research on the creation of the different communities in HIVE, its founders, the number of members that integrate it, its evolution; since it is very valuable information for all the members of HIVE and that is very useful at the time of publishing our posts.

The organization is perfect, each writer, poet, player, musician, blogger, photographer has the opportunity to connect with people who love and enjoy the same thing, this can take us to another level which opens up the possibilities for growth.

It is also important not to forget and know how to manage support for all users who belong to these communities so that they do not feel distant and can receive some love.

Yep easy to conect and find your place!

You just have to be patient, to reach hearts and make them fall in love with what we write.

Man our subscriber count just keeps on growing even tho we trying to incentivize users to use the other niche communities more that we're curating. Will have to make things more clear once we finally finalize everything we're planning on doing moving forward.

Sweet problem to have :)
But I see you are supporting other communities as well.... that is great!

#starwarscommunity will be working harder to be on this list next round! :)

I need to subscribe to this community!

Too proud to see Freewriters among giants. It's been a good home to me 🧡

Congrats!

GEMS is doing a lot as a community.. i must say.. nice stats right here

Yep ... it on the top ... having a large HP can help :)

I discovered that.. appreciator and upmewhale

It is good to see that authors are using them - I wonder how many are crossposts? GEMS gets a lot due to the "in-house" curation that goes on there I assume, ocd because they are one of the longest running communities (well before communities existed) and actifit well--- :D

I did a cross post analysis recently, and overall the numbers wasnt not as high.

That is good to know. I see quite a few in my feed, but I am guessing it is mostly from a handful of accounts. It kind of gets annoying when people crosspost themselves a lot

And I've no idea what GEMS is about, although I come across a lot of posts from there.

I'm slightly surprised LEO is relatively low down, I guess that means it's still quite undiscovered.

Also surprised that Splinterlands is nowhere to be seen, I guess it's just a minority of us that play the game and blog about it too!

GEMS is about everything :)
The top 3 former bots are curating in that community, with appreciator at the top.

So a big HP, therfor the posts.

Not sure if Solinterlands has an official community, their SPT token hasnt moved to Hive yet.

What makes a community official?!? Do they need their own token?

There are plenty people posting about splinterlands into the splinterlands community, or is that 'community'?!

I had a feeling GEMS was quite generic.

I think I do OK as it is without seeking out even larger votes!

Sounds like a good opportunity for a diverse range of people though, which is good.

Keep working hard

Great to see these lists, I love lists full of stats, many thanks. It's curious to see how far ahead OCD and GEMS are compared to the others. They are way ahead for some reason, which becomes a self-perpetuating loop I presume as more people want to post on the bigger communities.

They are ahead but not as much

Many communities are being created, but only a few are being supported in a stronger way and this is an aspect that could / should be improved.

Yep we need more succesfull ones :)

My God. OCD , GEM and threespeak for the win. My niches is Theinkwell though. They love me more than these streets
