The Big Dig or Central Artery/Tunnel Project was a massive project in Boston that rerouted the Central Artery of Interstate 93 (I-93) into a 1.5 mile tunnel.
This project also included the construction of the Ted Williams Tunnel, the Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge over the Charles River, and the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
The Big Dig was the most expensive road project in U.S. history lasting around 15 years (8 longer than expected). It was plagued by cost overruns (of 190%) and problems too numerous to mention.

Looks like a massive project then.

It eventually just was declared finished vs. actually completed as some planned construction was cancelled. The project finally ended in 2006.

I don't remember where this photo was taken. I think it was from a parking garage somewhere in downtown Boston in 2003.
Was a very crazy and expensive project indeed!
