Do you want to be voted by a whale? 4 things that can help you.

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

"The whales here build this community with votes and encouragement and anytime someone gets a vote from taskmaster4450le or onealfa.leo it's a fantastic feeling. I've had a couple of those votes and it really lights a fire under me."

These are the words of cflclosers from his post where he talked about the great responsibility of each of us as users to curate the content that is published on leofinance and thus help the community grow. But from that post I was also struck by how true and satisfying it is to get a big vote in any publication, it's like winning a prize, a feeling of great happiness.

That's why each of us tries to do everything we can to get a vote from a whale, but have you ever wondered how the whale criteria work and how you can get a vote from a whale?

Crosheille explained the steps we should follow to be on a whale's healing radar, which in a nutshell include:

  • Quality images
  • Remarkable effort

  • Real commitment

  • Passion and personality

  • And a few extras: such as image font placement, offering English text, acceptable reading length, avoiding milking of communities and originality.

But I think that in addition to these excellent recommendations, I have been able to see that in leofinance you could also add others that also help you when it comes to get a vote as a reward. And throughout the 5 months that I have been here I have been able to pick up several tips that maybe, could help you in this community.

1) Don't tag whales.

Of all the most active whales in this community, the ones that stand out the most are taskmaster4450le and onealfa.leo, who also have a lot of voting power. One thing these users have to deal with is the constant mentioning of their names in posts that want to get their attention and get a vote.

I think this is very annoying because if you want to get the attention of the whales do not mention them, rather do it with quality content, not putting their names in every post (if you want to talk about them it is advisable to do it without the @).

Also if you are someone new you need to gain recognition, you will achieve that with your constant comments and quality effort and little by little you will see that your name will appear often in the trending list in leofinance.

2) Research very well before publishing.

I tell you this from my own experience, since I have been told this on 3 occasions and the truth is very bad and embarrassing to look like an ignorant, so if you are going to make a publication on a certain topic make sure you have researched it very well and have fully grasped its meaning. Because if you are constantly sharing dubious, false or meaningless information You will never catch anyone's attention, not even common users.

3) Don't give up, bide your time.

One of the great defects of the digital generation is the lack of patience, since we want everything fast. And in leofinance the same thing happens, when we arrive we see many who want to quickly get a $20 vote and when they don't achieve it, they give up and end up abandoning.

But perseverance and effort make anything work, I will give you 2 examples, I myself have been here 5 months and only on rare occasions (less than 6 times) I have received a vote from some whales, but nevertheless I have not stopped posting or commenting a single day.

The other example is the whales themselves, since they did not build everything they are overnight, many of them did it with continuous effort, onealfa mentions in his profile that he has about 5 years in the steem and now in the Hive blockchain, and all that time has brought him many experiences and learnings, and the same with all those leofinance whales.

4) Show your commitment with comments.

This point also mentioned by cfclosers, I think it is the most important of all, as it is part of one of the basic pillars of this community, and in fact all the whales are constantly promoting it, because if there is no constant commitment among the community, how can it progress?.

So if you are constantly making Significant comments on other people's posts, you can see that you are interested in learning and helping, rather than just getting votes and rewards. And the best example is taskmaster who is constantly in first place in all the blog statistics in terms of comments, no doubt imitating that commitment will give you good results in the short, medium and long term.

In conclusion

Receiving a vote worth $20 on a publication made by you can be very rewarding, but remember that everything has a cost, and in leofinace is that you first get involved with the community and doing everything with a lot of effort and quality, that way you may always see good votes on your publications.

You forgot rule #1... Show up everyday. They'll notice.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thanks for add it man. That is so important.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Consistency is key, if you are continuously putting out quality content or putting a lot of effort into your work you will always get noticed after a time. Just keep on adding to the website and adding to the lives of others. Great post!

Totally agree man :D

More or less all said right. But I want to put a few small notes though

onealfa mentions in his profile that he has about 5 years in the blockchain...

Yes, five year - that is (almost) since I have been registered on Steem (now Hive).
With Blockchains as in general - I'm involved since 2012.

pg divider 05_6.png

Few other moments, which will make me NOT to put even 0.1% vote are these:

  • When I see a text with sentences/paragraphs of 7-9 lines long, or even longer, and without even one single coma or dot.
Please please, follows at least the bear minimum of grammar rules

  • When I see a downvote on the post from spamminator, or from other well known Hive-steem old time user
Those DV's are really without a reason. If you been plagiating, but have recognized your mistake, and do not now do this any more - make sure first those downvoters recognize your improvement

  • when I see very excessive TAG spamming, the post holding 10 or sometimes even more TAG's, often NOT related to the subject of the post in any obvious way

  • lots of GIF's , memes, animated, flashing GIF's , dozens of referral links at the end of each post

Those are probably the few top reasons, which may cause Toruk never mark your post

First, I want to say thank you very much for considering my publication, thank you.

And you are right now that I see it is true what you say about your stay in steem and now in hive, what happens is that at the time of translation, the translator program removed the word steem so it was only blockchain, I fix it.

And thanks for those other reminders that as a curator you also see in the publications.

I will always try to take into account your suggestions, thank you very much for your comment.

I wouldn’t rely on spamminator too much. They had a consipiracy that I made bots to auto vote for myself. I have no idea how to even do that lol I had to reach out to discord to get them to remove it.

Making some really compelling replies can definitely help some new users get some attention from minnows and whales. Of course, sometimes comments are ignored but generally people who are committed to the community will read and also reply as well. Being informative and helpful always goes a long way!

Everyone ignores comments like: "Good post or "wow I was impressed" but a meaningful comment that lets the author know what you liked will get everyone's attention.

I have seen users who make that kind of comments and receive a high vote, and although they are not looking for votes, what they are looking for is to teach something or solve a doubt.

I'm no whale but I feel I'm pretty up there in some of the tribes. We for sure see the level of time and commitment that goes into a post and whales only have so much time on their hands each day. So even though you crafted a huge amazing post that took hours it still might not get upvoted simply because of the time factor. Just keep at it and you'll get the love over time and from there continue to build yourself up and build a small community around you that enjoys what you write about.

You are right man, time and constant effort pay off handsomely, I am still building my place, thank you very much for your comment.

Lovely post, I agree with everything and I like the photos/gifs you shared ;)

Thank you very much, hahaha it was difficult to find images that fit the description, I had to use a very specific SEO.

Leofinance more than Hive has meant for me a real school where I learn every day something new about content monetization and living in a virtual community. I joined just a few months ago and like you I have made the same mistakes you mention in your extraordinary publication.

Of course, for me the important thing is not to give up in the face of failure, to provide quality content in publications and help other members, especially those who recently joined to make their work stand out, either with wise and useful tips like the one you just exposed, commenting publications and if we think so, giving our upvote.

I confess that I only comment on publications when they make me reflect (as in this case). If you dedicate something as valuable as time to make a work like this, that should be rewarded not only with an upvote, but also by expressing to the author that his work has left you a certain learning or desire to debate if it were the case.

I congratulate you for what you do and thank you for this contribution that I will apply in the future.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am very glad that this publication has helped you, and like you I also made these mistakes that I am talking about and well it is not good to be ignored for making mistakes over and over again, but as we learn we do better.

Don't give up, we can all achieve great things.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This is excellent effort and I will be doing the same things you mentioned. My first priority is to make some friends by engaging through my comments. This is how I started in steem and I will be doing same in Hive. As we start getting recognition, the support will automatically come.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Sure man, that's the attitude

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I guess all the points are valid but I'd like to highlight the 4th one. Engagement is huge and making quality comments is one of the best ways to create engagement.

It's really what started to change things for me here on Leo.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Also for me man, and for everyone who wants real change

Maybe this platform needs to be renamed 'leopatronage'. I feel more comfortable with Hive where most of the whales generally don't bother with voting!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That is why to this day I am still very active on leofinance, as it is better than hive.

But mainly it is because in Hive hundreds of users arrive with the idea of easy and free money.

That's why the whales withhold votes due to the large amount of garbage you can find in Hive, in leofinance is somewhat different because it is a community focused on 1 topic and the whales have more opportunity to vote publications.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I guess it depends what you're interested in!

I've got my feed on Hive pretty sorted so I generally get interesting stuff.

Half the battle is just showing up - Stephen Hawking

Thank you for the advice and couldn't agree more with points 3 and 4. Comments are what make a community.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I'm glad you liked it, thank you very much for commenting.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Amazing tips @fabian98. Even I got my way on the platform through commenting. It works! When you are new, you have lots of questions to ask. So why not ask them in the comments and start interacting with people. Believe me, I sometimes get upvotes from random people I don't even know. 😂 Making comments will give you a headstart in terms of LP and visibility.

  1. Don't tag whales.

On this point, I would like to add something. I feel you Should tag whales when it's relevant to the topic. Just imagine if they might catch that mention on your lucky day. Obviously, as you mentioned shouldn't overdo it. But when it's required, do it since it's an awesome feature that helps you get some 'visibility'.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Of course, only for essential things, since it is like taking ibuprofen for a headache, if you take too much it can be fatal.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Haha. Yes. Nice analogy! 👻

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think everyone wants it, but it should not be expected. I think if you write good content and makes connections the financial aspect will follow.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Oh gracious whales, look upon me...🤧

I think all the above-mentioned tips are valid and useful if you want to build a sizable following. It is still very possible to earn something decent without a lot of whale support. Fortunately, we have very active and generous whales here on leofinance. Chances are you will get a huge upvote if you engage and contribute meaningfully to the community.

It is true, to get involved in a personal way with the community and not just to gain something or make a profit.

Well said.

1) Don't tag whales.

I can't stand the upvote-beggars that are tag-spamming wealthier accounts. It looks desperate, foolish and childish at the same time. Unfortunately, it actually works to some degree. People wouldn't do it if never worked.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It is absolutely true, if the whales stopped paying attention it would stop making

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yup. It's annoying to see things like that work. Especially as an active, engaging content creator who puts in hours of efforts. That's one of the few times I actually think things are unfair.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Well, in the long run quality wins over mediocrity, so we must not give up.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That is very true. We need to set a new standard.
