Are you new to Splinterlands and searching for some advice, then you found the correct series! In this Beginner’s Guide Series, we are discussing things that new players of Splinterlands should know or try to learn. In this specific episode we will take a look at some cards that are not from the current Chaos Legion expansion. This time around I want to focus on cards that might get overlooked because they are from the Untamed or Dice expansion. We will pick one card for each Splinter and I will talk us trough the specifics why these cards are important if you want to succeed in the later stages of this game. If this article motivated you to start playing this amazing game, then feel free to join the fun over the following link:

Some Introductory Words

I am aware that a lot of Untamed and Dice cards are still being played out there. Nevertheless, I was able to observe that these cards are getting rarer by the minute. Furthermore, new players tend to pick up the newest cards, just because they are easier to get and more cheaper to accumulate. While this is true, I want to put some attention on the still in modern usable cards. I selected on purpose not the most expensive once since they still need to be affordable for new players that don’t want to spend too much money. Additionally, I tried to focus on monster cards since summoners are most of the time the obvious choice. With that out of the way, let’s get into these cards!

Fire Elemental

First up, we have one of my all-time favorites: Fire Elemental! Yes it might be not perfect for the current fire summoner as it is one that buffs melee attacks. On the other hand, I think it is important to diversify your attacks in each battle, which is why Ranged attackers are still very valid. For a total of 5 mana you are getting a card that has 2 damage 4 speed and 2 health. Yes, it does not have the most health but it is a ranged attacker which is why we hope to protect it well in the first place. Secondly, the speed is very good for a monster on level one. It almost always allows us to attack first which can be crucial with the ability that this card has.

This is my favorite ability in this whole game: Explosion! Why? Because it allows you to deal extra damage to the monsters next to your target! This means that we can deal damage to at least two monsters at the same time. When we have a ruleset that allows the ranged attackers to have the Snipe Ability, this Explosion becomes a very effective weapon to destroy the opponents backline fairly quickly! All in all, a card that is definitely worth considering for around 2.50 USD.

Serpent of Eld

Next up we have a card that I sued to play almost every time before the new expansion. In my opinion this card is one of the most annoying tanks out there and if played in the right combination it can be invincible. I am talking about the Serpent of Eld. On the first look it just looks like a fairly average tank with only 2 armor and 5 health. What makes him so great is his 4 speed combined with the Dodge Ability. Because most cards do not have 4 speed to begin with, we already have an advantage. Because of the Dodge Ability there is a fairly high chance that Melee and Ranged attackers will miss this card!

If you combine this card with a tank healing card as well as a card that has the Repair Ability, this card can be indestructible while dealing 3 damage by itself. On higher levels this card can even return the Fire and for a cost of around 4.40 USD definitely a tank that you will not regret recruiting to your team.

Sporcerer

Moving on to my favorite Splinter in the game: Earth. Because we are having the honor to play with Obsidian as the summoner who buffs our monster’s magic attack, it would be foolish not to focus on the most overpowered attacking style in the game. This is the reason why I am suggesting the Sporcerer. With a base magic attack of 2, it is getting buffed really quickly to 3 magic attack. This is very solid for a card with 5 health and a cost of 6 mana.

On the downside we only have one attacking speed, but because we will have to protect our damage dealers anyways the speed should not matter too much with this card. What’s more is that on level 4 this card gets the Silence Ability which reduces the magic attack of our opponent. For 5.60 USD this card is already a bit on the more expensive side but still worth a try in my opinion.

Silvershield Sherriff

Moving on to the Life Splinter where we are focusing on the Ranged attackers. This is the reason why I think that the following card is a very interesting one. With a base attack of 3 that is getting buffed up to 4 it is already a great amount of damage. Now imagine you can snipe your enemy’s cards with this card. This will make this card fairly strong. And now imagine this card has a solid speed of 3 and an unbelievable health of 8! This is how you get the Silvershield Sheriff. Yes it will cost you 9 mana to play it, but in high mana battles this card is an absolute must. For around 2.50 USD this card is also on the cheaper side and definitely worth a try.

The Gorlodon

For the death Splinter we have the Gorlodon; What a name this is! I think this card is fairly overlooked but is one of the most annoying cards to deal with. Imagine you just defeated your enemy’s tank and think that you can pick apart his supporting units. Well, wrong! There is still another monster with 12 health and 3 melee attack that you need to go through. Not only that but during all this time, this monster already dealt some damage because of its Reach Ability.

The disadvantages of this card are also very clear. For 9 mana this card is not the cheapest to play and should only be played in high mana battles. Furthermore, the speed of this card is the lowest it can get. But this can help in the reverse speed rulesets! Like you already noticing, this card has its pros and cons and for around 5 USD you can have this cool card in your team as well.

Gloridax Magus

Moving on to the last two cards which are fairly special. For the Dragon Splinter it is hard to find a card that is relatively cheap and is worth using. I think Gloridax Magus is one of these cards. Because of its Explosive Ability and the Magic attacking style, this card is capable to deal some good amount of damage. With 6 mana cost and 6 health this card also comes with great additional steps. What is the greatest negative about this card is its actual card price. You would have to take around 10 USD for just one card in order to be able to play it. Not the biggest price to pay for a legendary but definitely not on the cheaper side.

Sand Worm

Last but not least we have the neutral card. This is again a personal favorite as I like to play this card either with the Water or the Fire Splinter! I am talking about the Sand Worm. Because of its high melee attack and Sneak ability this card is almost always worth playing. It comes with only 1 speed and costs 9 mana to play, but it is worth every little bit of mana you have. With 5 health this card is also not that easy to defeat and if your opponent has some serious minions in the back, this card is getting the job done. The best part about this is that you can get it for just under 1 USD which is a bargain in my opinion for how good this card actually is.

I love the neutral cards selection in Splinterlands.
Dragon cards are also powerful elements in the game.
Have you heard about the Huobi SPS trade opening?
I think this opportunity will help the market price of SPS to rise. It is possible that the price stay the same too.

Oh yes! I heard about it and I am excited to see what impact it will have on SPS and Splinterlands in general :)
