This week’s highlight is a very overlooked monster in my opinion. The talk is about a water monster that has one of the coolest pictures in my opinion: Kulu Swimhunter. This underwater creature can really make a difference in some of the battles and that is why I want to share with you my battles of the week with this card.

Kulu Swimhunter

Let’s start with talking about the star of this week’s article: Kulu Swimhunter. Like I mentioned before, this card is very overlooked, at least from my side. It is a common water card with the Ranged attacking style two speed and a decent amount of health without armor. Furthermore, this card has no ability and has a cost of 4 which is pretty easy to overlook as there are plenty other monsters that are outplaying this card. The interesting part about this card is its cost: With 4 mana to pay this card can be played in the ruleset where only monster with the mana cost of 4 and lower can be played.

Like all the cards in Splinterlands, the card is getting better the higher its level gets. In the Bronze League it can reach up to 5 health and 3 speed which is decent in the bronze leagues. In Silver it can get up to 4 speed and 6 health which is a decent amount of health, but with only 2 attack and no ability, this card already starting to lack something and falling behind the curve. In the Gold league the attack gets finally increased to three and while the health stays the same, the speed gets increased to five. It is a decent speed but, like I mentioned for the Silver Leagues, no ability is really not doing this card a favor. In its ultimate level the card has only an increased attack to 4, while all the other stats keep staying the same as in the Gold levels.

Team & Strategy

Moving on to the Team and Strategy, it was not really easy to fit this card into a perfect match plan. I think the best way to fit this card in, is to utilize the water strategy that I recently mentioned in one of my guides Link, feel free to check it out! The main idea from this guide was it to utilize a tank with high speed to make sure that your opponent has a hard time to hit your tank. This way we can take advantage of the long life time of our tank and full-blat the opponent with our Ranged and Magic attacks. Therefore, my favorite tanks to use are either Serpent of Eld or Dijnn Oshannus.

To increase the endurance of the tanks, we can use monsters like the Merdaali Guardian or River Nymph that are either healing or taking away posion from our tank. In both cases we are increasing the life-span of these monsters. Last but not least, we have to make sure that we deal enough damage, which is why we are filling our team up with more ranged or Magic monsters that can deal a serious amount of damage.

Battle Examples

Moving on to the example battles we can see in which situations the use of Kulu actually benefited us. Especially the first battle should be used as a clear use case in which all monsters are losing their abilities and the mana cap is not that high. Both of these circumstances are favoring Kulu as he is relatively cheap and is not nerfed in this special ruleset as he has no ability to begin with. In all the battles our strategy works exactly as planned, we let our tank absorb as much damage as possible while our back line is slowly eliminating the opponents monster one by another.

With that being said, feel free to check out my other guide as well as the battles linked down below. I hope I could help you to find a strategy to fit Kulu into your team and get yourself a win!
