This week’s “Share Your Battle” Challenge is all about the Fire Monster “Lava Spider”. The name of this card is pretty straight forward and indicates immediately that it is a Fire-Splinter Monster. This article is my contribution to this week’s challenge. I will talk about the attributes of this monster, what its advantages and disadvantages are and when and how best to use it. At the end I will show two example battles!

Lava Spider

Lets begin with the star of this article: the Lava Spider. This card is a common monster from the Fire Splinter. Because the Fire Splinter is very Melee heavy, you would assume that this monster is a melee attacking card but it is in fact a range attack monster. In its base form it has one range damage, two speed and cost only 3 mana. What is very good about this card is its health which is already at 4 on level one. What makes this card stand out is its Snipe ability which can make the big difference in tight battles as this ability allows you to attack the enemy’s backline monsters. This is one of the cards that is definitely getting stronger with higher level. Already at level 5 you will have an increase in speed, health and damage which makes it a very good card for just three mana. On Level 6 you are even getting the additional ability Snare which deletes the flying ability of its targets. On the final level this card even gets the poison ability which makes it a very good card for the cost of three mana and very valuable in low mana battles.

As this card is a Range-Attacker it is obviously not wise to put it anywhere close to the front as there is a high chance of this card getting into first position and therefore not able to attack anymore. Therefore, its position is always in the last or second last position. It depends whether you want a bumper at the end that protects your range monsters from sneak attacks or not. One more thing that I want to mention is that it would really interest me, how this spider is able to make its web as it appears to be out of lava. But I think this topic is not that relevant for the battles :D

Team & Strategy

As we are approaching the battles, it is very important to select the right team and strategy. Obviously, this card is a Fire Monster and this is the reason for my summoner choice. Because I really enjoy playing Tarsa and already have her leveled up I am selecting her. She grants an extra Melee Attack which is not relevant for the Lava Spider but she additionally grants an extra health which makes the Lava Spider Survive longer.

As for the rest of the team, there are plenty of options especially in the Fire Splinter. In the next section you will se two different line ups but with the same strategy as I think the strategy for the Fire Splinter is almost every time the same. The main goal is to erase your opponent from the back and protect your backline as long as possible. The choice of monsters is dependent on the battle restrictions such as mana. As front monster a big tank is always the right choice. Here I alternate between two options. The first one being the classic Living Lava. This card has the Shield Ability and allows you to take only half the melee and range damage. Furthermore it has a good amount of attack and health which makes it a very good tank, one of the most popular out there. The second tank that I really like to use is the Forgotten One. Although it does not have the Shield Ability it can not be affected by effects like poison and with its 8 health, 4 armor and 4 melee attack it makes an excellent offensive tank that is hard to take down.

Depending on the amount of mana you have available I chose the second position. If it is a low mana game I tend to use cheap cards to fill up the second position so that my next monster does not have to switch into the first position and hence has to attack my enemy’s tank. If we have a high mana game I almost always chose the Radiated Brute as this monster has 3 melee attack and 6 health which would also make it a respectable tank on its own.

In the middle of the field I like to put my strikers. These monsters are responsible for deleting the opponent’s back line. Here we will find the Lava Spider and my Sneak attackers like Tenyii Striker and Uraeus. These cards are the key for a successful outcome which is also important to keep in mind to protect them from both sides. This is the reason why I like to put a monster in the back which can absorb at least some hits before my main cards get it. My choice for the bumpers are again dependent on the amount of mana I have available. In low mana battles I chose cheap cards that don’t have any abilities like the Radiated Scorcher. In battles with high mana available I like to chose a monster with the shield ability like the Antoid Platoon.

Battles

Coming to the battles, we have the exact two possibilities that I talked about before. In the first battle we have the low mana options, the second battle is the high mana option. In both battles we win because we were quicker to erase the opponents backline and because our tanks were able to hold of the enemy as long as possible. The bumper at the back did an amazing job to protect our main strikers from deleting their targets and securing us the wins.

I hope I was able to bring you some ideas for your next strategy and show you how to use the Lava Spider in your next combat! Do you have some other strategies? I would really like to know about them! Let me know in the comments how you are playing the Fire Splinter and especially the Lava Spider.
