Splinterlands: Is Full Energy Refills on a Daily Basis an Option?

in LeoFinancelast year

I know this is barely a two-day-old update, but couldn't help but wonder if you consider using full energy refills regularly on ranked battles in Splinterlands.

I don't know what the cost-reward ratio is in lower leagues, but I checked the level of my rewards recently in ranked battles and if it would make sense to pay for a daily refill in diamond or champion, with the kind of rewards I was making.

Now, besides the rewards from yesterday, all other results are from the time when ECR was still around, so this isn't accurate. For something more accurate we need more data with the current system.

But still, a rough idea can be made. As I was checking, I realized the only liquid reward we receive - every once in a while - is chests. SPS rewards are staked immediately after claiming so that SPS cannot be sold to cover the energy refill price unless you are in a continuous unstaking process.

If one has staked SPS or tokens in Splinterlands pools, then liquid SPS is claimed too. And of course with stake SPS (or by holding licenses), vouchers are received too. And, if you have cards on the market, then you have a DEC rental income. So, there are sources of liquid tokens to use to buy the refills, if that is profitable.

The question is... Is it profitable?

And here's where people might come up with different answers, depending on their goals.

My first thought was that people who fight for the leaderboard might do that, but after looking at the leaderboards, I noticed very few have played a lot of games this season. So maybe that's not for them.

Then, if someone values the soulbound rewards cards highly and believes they will have a nice value on the market, he or she might be tempted to refill every day to max the reward cards as quickly as possible, even if through the transferable daily rewards, and if we disregard the potential jackpots, it wouldn't be profitable.

Personally, I'll be in the category that will use refills only occasionally and probably partially, unless it becomes clear it is more profitable to refill every day, which I don't think it will, because then prices will be adjusted.

I don't think I will be touching it much at all and I wonder if people will buy them towards the end of the season. They could rent cards and try for the season rankings for that one or two days worth of rentals to get as many good chests as they can.

That makes sense too if they rent cards to play. They'd probably want to pay rent for as little time as possible and play as many games as possible.

I would have loved to play this games but I have so many things that I am doing. Is it possible for me to stake SPS without playing the game?

Sure! Much of the Splinterlands economy is defi-like, not gaming. So yes, you can stake your SPS without playing (just like you can hold cards without playing), but you have to do it from the game. To join the game you simply go to Splinterlands homepage and choose log in and use your Hive username. Then, from the SPS management page you can transfer SPS from Hive-Engine in-game and stake it. You can, alternatively, use one of the pools for a higher APR.

I don't think it's going to change my plans for now anyway. There are plenty energy to keep playing matches and i think that when soulbound do become fluid that their supply will be so high that the value will be tiny for the first year or so afterwards until newer players arrive.

Why do you think so? Maybe I forgot how they'll become tradable, but if I remember correctly, they need to be maxed and then pay a DEC fee to unbound them. How many of them will be tradable if that will be the process?

I've been thinking about the same lately and done some calculations.

I'm in Bronze I and to refill 1 energy costs 1 DEC. So, if I stay loyal to my focus I get roughly 0.2 SPS as a reward for the win. Swapping 1 DEC for SPS would currently make 0.0269 SPS, so it feels like a pretty good deal even though it's gonna be staked(and I don't obviously win all the battles :D)

All in all my SPS and chest rewards have increased massively because of the update. One other thing I also see as a positive factor is because I'm now getting more chests(more Soulbound cards) my power is also starting to increase more, slowly but still getting me closer to Silver.

So power could be one thing to motivate to refill energy too.

Very interesting breakdown! Thanks for that. For me, in Diamond, I earn around 4 SPS per match won and would pay around the same amount per 150 DEC which is the cost of an energy point in Diamond. In champ is even worse, I believe.

Of course, that's only the battle rewards, if we count everything else some may consider it's worth it. It certainly should be worth it if you have a little bit to the next chest.

I wonder if some bot farms stopped because of this update. That would be a reason for a boost in rewards.

Hmm... sounds like it isn't that beneficial to refill in the upper leagues. Also, today I noticed that there is a certain amount of refill points we are able to buy in a day.

Still, great update IMO!

I agree. That's a beneficial update, overall.

I am similar to you. Imagine it is a focus that I have the best upgraded cards in, refilling might be more profitable. Else might be spending too much and not getting sufficient ROI

I haven't thought of that, but that's another potential good use for refills if you have a favorable daily focus. Another situation would be when you are on a winning streak. Sure, that can continue the next day, but maybe you are not as inspired, or maybe you will catch tougher opponents then.

To be honest, I don't have the stamina to max out 24 battles per day, so half the time, my energy sits full. After a certain amount of daily chests (around 8), the number of points for the next one goes up so much and it's quite discouraging to know I need to win much more battles for the next chest.

I am in a favour of this energy system. I think it will profitable for the players in high leagues.

Hi Gadrian. Let us know if the refills work.
