Why Are We Talking About S...M on Hive?

in LeoFinance2 years ago (edited)

As I was doing my rounds of manual curation in what should have been this morning but turned out to be quite in the afternoon, I noticed not one but three posts of known authors on Hive talking about the legacy chain.

They weren't talking in good terms, as anyone who knows the history could imagine, but why do it at all? Any publicity is good publicity, marketers say. That includes negative publicity.

At this point in time, we might be the only ones talking about them or what happens over there, particularly nothing or bad things. I might be wrong, I didn't bother checking.

Are we talking for the benefit of our community here? If users are so new that they don't know the history that's been reminded every once in a while, and they are attracted by the price manipulations going on over there, maybe they should go... I would advise against that, but who am I?

If we are talking for the outside world, to keep them from doing some horrible mistakes like investing their hard earned money there, or to see the difference between a viable and actively developed protocol and projects and engaging community like Hive, on one side, and abandoned ones, on the other, will they listen? Or will they think we're just attacking the competition, which validates them, and it definitely shouldn't. There is no competition to validate or invalidate.

Personally, I won't even give them the satisfaction of seeing their hijacked name immutably imprinted on our chain post-split by me. I often make free publicity by writing about new things that are launched on Hive and even elsewhere. But never consciously for something connected to JS.

I guess this was shorter than I imagined it would be. Not as easy to write about something without directly referring to it or the particular situation. Anyway, if you are curious what this is about, you can easily find that out. I won't touch that chain again, even if their governance token goes to 100$. What governance? Lol!

Pump and dump. Next bull market someone may try to get rid of the bag.

That's a HUGE bag to get rid of, lol.

Heard about it during my first months on Hive and it led me down a rabbit hole of how it all happened, the split and everything. Good to look forward and leave the past behind :)

I agree! And I think we have for the most part, until the ones who lived through it are reminded of it...

I guess BTC rising makes people nostalgic? I haven't seen much posts about it lately, but I am familiar with the history. I can understand your stand, and support it.

No, it wasn't nostalgia. It was a pump over there (followed by a dump). And people wanted to remind others what a dump the place became.

We are always going to get new users and if we don't see the information every now and then, it's also easy to forget. I don't really think people can really do anything. As for publicity, I think it depends. If it's like Budlight, then it's not good marketting.

I guess the story is being reminded every once in a while. But even if new users go over there and see the trending, they should be quite clear there isn't much going on. If they see the amounts and are attracted by that, that's precisely because rewards aren't distributed widely and end up in a couple of pockets. And new users will have no chance over there.

I don't know what mistakes were made with Budlight marketing (don't know any details), but we are talking about publicity, people talking about your product for free. If you are out of the spotlight, even bad publicity is good publicity because it brings you back into the spotlight, even temporarily.

You have a good point. I wasn't here during the legacy Chain era, but even I don't enjoy listening to a caricature of their mode of operation. I've heard about it a couple of times to know that they are losing the game.

Now, I'm more interested in being informed about the stuff we are doing here... Stuff that will raise the bar for us and make Hive more attractive to normies.

I understand why the respective authors (I don't mention them to not create a direct link to the respective topics, but they are all very good authors) raised the issue right now, but personally, I would have continued to ignore them.

Steem had its pump courtesy of Korean traders and it's now back to the graveyard 😅

That's true. You had to say its name, lol.

So that the graveyard recognizes it 😀

Hello @gadrian I don't know what you are talking about or who. Thank you. Barb 😊 !BBH !CTP #ctp

Who still cares about an already dead governance no matter how pleasing it might look now

Exactly!

Was there ever a form of price manipulate here?

Koreans tried it for a while. Now seems like they moved on.

I think since we are a community, the benefits of that community should be shared. Moreover, the hive is an ecosystem with many advantages.

Absolutely! The rewards of being part of the Hive ecosystem are multiple and growing.

Key should be grow together and contribute so that more can come into the block chain.

The way we look at the market right now, the market has moved to a good place and as long as it stands above 32,500 then it is very good.
