Well, it is that time again, time for Kat to leave the farm/ranch.
And per usual, the world is a bit on the wild side as I get ready to leave. Even more exciting, is I am heading right into a tinder box of a situation. That's right, I am heading to Chicago!
To be fair, I will be in North Chicago, and spending most of my time on a military base, but still, the turmoil fomenting back yonder is going to be an interesting thing to meander through.
Aside from that little bit of awareness floating about in my consciousness, I am actually super, beyond excited to head out. The hubs and I are turning our foray to see the boy graduate Navy basic into a road trip of fun. We both need a bit of a reprieve, so we are going to spend 24 hours of driving time together, listening to music and podcasts, staying wherever we like, eating whatever sounds good, and seeing some country we haven't seen before. I like such things.
And then there's the boy. I miss both of my children. Yesterday, marked three months since I have seen my son, and we have had very little contact since he left. I get it, it's part of being a parent. Kids grow and fly the nest. I mean, to be honest, my kids flew the nest responsibility-wise more than a couple years ago, but we all spent a lot of time together, so that part has been a trip.
However, when the boy called me for a few minutes yesterday, fresh off of crushing his 40 hour battle stations training, telling me he was officially a United States Sailor, my insides melted a bit when I heard the absolute pride in his voice. I am so proud of that kid.
So now, now I am packing and getting ready to roll. I have no idea what I am going to see or the things I am going to do, but I do know I will be with the people I love, so the adventure is going to be lit!
