#CryptoFinance Initiative: How has Crypto and Blockchain Technology Impacted your Personal Finance?

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

First post here and how fitting of a subject ...

So let me tell you about my journey in the cryptosphere.

PHASE 1: IGNORANT

I was first exposed to cryptos during 2012-13 when you could still mine with a home PC. I had a Mac with a poor graphics card and I almost ordered a PC with a powerful one so that I could mine some Litecoin. I remember Litecoin being around 1-2 dollars, but in the end, I didn't buy the PC because it would cost me 2000 euros and it would greatly diminish my savings at that time...

Well little did I know about cryptos and prices, but I don't regret to honest, but but If I had a couple more thousands in the bank I would have done it. Anyway, didn't have this spare cash and didn't do it. And I am fine with that.

Years have passed and I left my hometown Thessaloniki to go to Athens to open my technical office ( I am a civil engineer ) and we arrive to the summer of 2017 ...

PHASE 2 : NAIVE

During my summer vacations, I came across an article from a friend of mine about how you can blog and earn money, crypto money. Out of curiosity, I read it...
Can you guess what was it about?
Of course, you can ... Steemit ...

It was a rather strange period in my life... My office was doing fiiiine but not great and I was trapped in a toxic business relationship. I wasn't very satisfied and this crypto thingy seemed to give me an alternative, a way out. Later, I realized this wasn't the change I needed.

So, I started reading, educating myself, learning all about chains, coins, tokens, keys you name it.

I started blogging on the other platform. This is where I met so many wonderful people and starting to make some crypto moneys.

I started "investing". And I put this in quotes because in reality, I was buying coins left and right because someone said it on the internet. Obviously, I bought bitcoin but I made some other "investments" as well.

And then it came the bull market and the peak ...

( image found on coinmarketcop.com )

I thought, we thought, we would be rich, we would drive lambos and never have to work again. We would just upvote each other and earn tokens...

And then it came the crash ... I panicked sold a lot of my coins at a loss. At least, I kept my bitcoin and a couple of other coins and continued being in touch with the news, even though I wasn't really active.

The only thing I regret and the lesson I got was that you have to take your profit no matter what and if something is too good to be true, it isn't...

I focused on my business and business was good, earning me a lot of "real money"...

And this brings us to today.

PHASE 3: REALIST

As I told you my business is doing great, which means that I have some euros to invest. Pandemic gave me some spare time to research and the realization that I have to diversify my income.

I tried to buy some stocks. Real stocks, not the bullshit crap eToro sells. In this part of the globe, it is not as easy as I thought, but I will not give up...

Until then there is the beginning of another bull circle ...

And this brings us to actually today ...

Thursday 26 of November 2020...

Blockchain technology is revolutionary, but I will leave this to the programmers. Most of this technology I don't understand and probably never will.

I am interested in its applications and especially crypto currencies.

From my involvement in the space I got some cognitive knowledge but the real and big lessons were those in character. And I will use them in this run...

Will I ride the wave ? HELL YEAH !!!

Will I abandon everything for crypto ? FUCK NO !!!

Crypto will be another source of income and I hope I will make the most of it.

Here's my strategy :

I have bought as much BTC and ETH as I could and will continue to buy if they dip. I will keep 90% of it as a store of value for the years to come and the rest of it, will sell it in a year or so for profit.

A small amount of money will be allocated to projects that have the potential of x10 or more. They will be sold without a second thought.

Another part of my portfolio is established coins that can go x2 or a little bit more. I will sell an amount of them depending on their performance.

And the last part and the part that I am most interested in are coins/tokens that pay dividends in a passive or not so passive way.
Hive/Leo is obviously one of them. I will post as frequently as I can depending on the time that I have. My main focus remains on my business.

KCS and BTMX give passive income and I have some of these. I will do a full presentation in the near future. I look for projects like these. Please share if you happen to know.

What I avoid :
Coins that when you stake them they lock you for more than 3 months and promises of APY more than 15% because it is not sustainable.

This is my journey, these are my lessons and this is my strategy...

Hope we will make some gains along the way.

BUT my biggest gain was the people I met on this journey.

I am excited for what is to come ...

And until the next post...

Be healthy and smile !!!

Welcome,

I've got much the same approach as you have - gradually buy into crypto and look for coins that offer a decent passive return.

I guess that's one good thing about LEO - you can get a >20% APY and only lock your tokens up for a month in the case of staking here, or with no lock if you add to the liquidity pool effectively.

Should suit you well!

I stacking leo is in my list for the near future but first I shall have to sell some hives.

Generally, I am a little skeptical about APYs more than 15% . I can't see how this is sustainable in the long run...

@katerinaramm said to welcome you! So, Καλώς ήλθατε to leofinance.ioor rewelcome to the blockchain as it basically the one you left. Enjoy your time in here!

What business do you have? Is it only in Greece or also on other spots in the world?

Let's see what this wave will bring ;)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

thank you @alexvan and @katerinaramm . nice seeing you ... I see a lot of familiar faces and I feel like home.

I help greek business obtain a license from the government in the fields of food/drink , beauty and education. these businesses require licensing from the state and I help them with the paperwork and specifications of the law. Not the typical civil engineer type of work but it pays the bills and more !!! :)

Let's enjoy the ride...

Cheers !!!

I feel you, I've noticed that the civil engineers are not so good in Greece, as most buildings are not finished. :) Just kidding.

The one with the license is an interesting business, as you need it to operate. I think it is good for every country as it is safer for the consumer.

Cheers!

It is a good place when your service is a must-have rather than a good-to-have. :)

Exactly. For the company I work, when I started, I was responsible with the sales (I did study engineering, but got bored) of radar components for the cars. We had a single production line till the European law on safety was changed. Every car that wants to have 5 stars at tests, needs to have a radar that can brake the car. Jackpot! I was rookie of the year with 6 new lines, so I feel you :)

Welcome Ilia to Leofinance!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

thanks . nice seeing you !!!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I also had that feeling and thought that I wouldn't have to work anymore. I think it's a good approach you mention, very realistic indeed. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

thank you. we share experiences , so that we don't make the same mistakes.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am very happy that you managed to join us my friend!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

nice seeing you @katerinaramm and in this part of the neighboorhood. :)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thats awesome that your business is doing well and you're able to think of deleveraging on fiat, I am the same, I still have an income and some of it goes to BTC every month and some to alts and then earning crypto on the side, attacking that crypto from as many ends as possible.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yes, that's the name of the game. Diversify as much as we can, because we live in strange and interesting times.

Cheers !!!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

good to see you back man!

Yeah it was a tough ride where it all hurt a little bit but still there is enough to learn and enough to be made along the line. The passive ones are nice and dont feel so attention demanding.

time man..time..
good to hear your business is doing good, pandemic makes it all in perspective!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Nice to see you and it is great that you are still active.

Your profession/sector has taken a huge blow and we realized how valuable you are. Hope you are away from covid patients...

We had a ride indeed and now we know better. For passive income, one of the best choices I have found are KCS ( kucoin shares ). I will make a video sometime in the future.

Cheers !!!

I hang around the covid ICU every now and then. It aint pretty but hey..nobody including government seems to care ;))

KCS yeah I have some of those somewhere as well! Do you need to actively stake them for the income of is just having them there good enough already?

Yes, you have to log in and save earnings to your main account in order to compound. One a click a day ...

What is to come can change all of our lives! Thanks for the read and have a nice day!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Just be cautious with the "can change all of our lives" thing.

Someone that has been there ;)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That's true! Thanks for the advice!

Now this excellent post was written by a man who's lived it and come out smarter. Looks like you joined Steemit right around the time that I did and got to see the run up in price that occurred in late 2017. I think we'll see more of that over the next 10 years. So hang on, it's gonna be one hell of a ride! :)

I think that Steem is a testament to almost everything that is wrong with human character/nature. It had many positives. I have learned a lot and met great people.

I still remember that morning that I opened my laptop and saw the 8$ , I nearly dropped my coffee...

Anyway , I am excited about what is ahead, we live in interesting times and we will enjoy it !!!

It's incredible to read that you had the opportunity of mining Litecoin. You've really come a long way. I wish you all the best on your crypto journey. We seem to share a similar story. Cheers!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thank you .

Reading most of the posts of the infinitive, I see we have a lot in common in our crypto journey.

I wish you all the best .

Cheers !!!

I am definitely a baby in diapers when they talk to me about cryptomoneda but I have a lot of enthusiasm and I think that can be worth, I am delighted with your publication a carousel of emotions that I leave in evidence that everything can be real, I hope your next publications, those investment goals of yours read interesting.

For now I'm going to step one, invest in what I can.

Thank you, greetings

I like the way you eloquently explained your path in the world of cryptology and the blockchain, detailing each phase and your experiences, both the positive and the not so positive. I can relate to some things in your post, although I am much newer and inexperienced in this world.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am glad you like my post. This is why I shared my journey. So that other people won't repeat the same mistakes.

Enjoy the ride :)
