Best Ways to Build Trust and Consistency
Hello Friends,
I do not think I am the best leader, nor do I think I am the most efficient, but I do care about the team I work with, I do love the project(s) I work on, and I am trying to learn and grow each day, sorta of a work in progress... so today, I wanted to talk about this a bit...
Building trust takes consistency, and consistency takes commitment. You can’t expect your team to trust you if you’re constantly changing your methods. It’s no secret that establishing trust and consistency in any environment is difficult - but it’s necessary for a healthy organization. We all want our team to trust us so we can work more efficiently together, but how do we do that?
One of the best ways is through consistency. Here are some suggestions on how you can establish consistency in your team to foster trust:
Show your trust from day one
As a manager, you are the face of your team and the symbol of their success.
Therefore, you have a unique opportunity to demonstrate trust in your team and set the tone for how they interact with each other. A manager’s trust has a huge impact on their team members. When you show trust from day one, it will provide a foundation for your team to build on. That’s because trust is a two-way street. When you trust your team members, they will in turn trust you. When you don’t trust your team members, they’ll often just assume you don’t trust them either, which will make it difficult to get anything done. Trust is only built when both parties are willing to trust each other. This means that you as the manager have to be willing to let your team members trust you; and you have to be willing to let them trust each other.
Spend time with your team
Daily meetings can help your team members feel connected to you and your organization. It eliminates the need for both you and your team to ask “What are they doing now?” - which can quickly turn into, “Who cares what they’re doing now?” Daily meetings do more than just build trust - they also create relationships and open dialogue. When you spend time with your team members, you have the opportunity to learn about their lives, their work, and their aspirations. Daily meetings can also be a great way to get everyone on the same page about where the company is headed, and to prevent your team members from getting too far ahead of themselves.
This is a topic I am struggling with as I am working with a team that is spread around the world, so daily Zoom meetings are hard to set up.
Communicate frequently and transparently
Creating a culture of honest communication is an important step in building trust. When you communicate frequently, you’re sending a message to your team that you want to hear their feedback and concerns. When you communicate transparently, you let your team know that you respect their ideas and opinions.
This shows your team that they can bring their whole selves to the table and contribute in a positive way to the success of the company. Transparent communication is the most important thing when it comes to building trust. Communication is a two-way street. When you’re transparent, your team will be more willing to share their ideas and opinions with you. When you’re transparent, your team will be more willing to listen to you. Transparency goes both ways. If you’re going to be transparent, you should expect your team to be transparent.
Plan regular check-ins with your team
One of the best ways to establish consistency is to implement regular check-ins with your team.
This can be done through team meetings, one-on-one meetings, or a combination of both. Planning regular check-ins allows your team members to feel like they’re being heard and respected. When you’re doing check-ins, you can use these meetings as an opportunity to build trust between you and your team members. You can show your team members that you respect their opinions and concerns by thanking them for their feedback and ideas. You can also use these meetings to give feed-back on their work performance by praising the good things they do and letting them know where they can improve their work.
Conclusion
Trust is something that takes time to build, and it’s difficult to start from scratch. If you’ve been in your position for a while, you have an advantage because it’s likely you have built some level of trust with your team members. However, trust is something that can be lost. Before you can regain trust, you have to be consistent in your actions.
Trust is something that can be lost in a company. It can be lost by a manager who is not consistent with their actions. It can be lost by a manager who is not transparent in their actions. It can be lost by a manager who is not communicating in a timely manner. These ways to build trust and consistency are just meant to be a guide. They are not cast in stone. They can be implemented in many different ways. However you choose to implement these 5 best ways, you need to be consistent in your actions.
What do you think?
- How do you build trust and consistency in your team?
- Do you feel like you work in a trusting environment
- What are the red flags when trust is low to look out for?
