And why do people from New York migrate to other states? In Cuba almost everyone migrates to the US, it is alarming how many Cubans are migrating out of the country.

It's gotten a lot more difficult to live here in many different ways: financially, safety, socially, etc. It's definitively gone downhill compared to a couple of decades ago.

Reminds me of the way things were in the 1970s. I was very young but I still remember some news highlights talking about the city at that time.

My family immigrated to NYC during that time period and are comparing the current state to how it was back then. So that's more than likely a pretty accurate assessment. The 90s were closer to NYC's golden age.

NYC is turning into a shithole. It has high taxation, high crime, onerous regulation, and a quality of life that is in decline.

Cost of living and the regulation. I live in a rural area but am reasonably close to major services, so I have lower taxes and lower government intrusion in my life - while still retaining convenience.
