Onboarding The Neighbor AKA "Forcing People into Crypto & HIVE" 101

Few days back was helping the neighbour with something and managed to incur him some unforeseen costs or repair fees that he wasn't planning in his budget to happen, because I'm an idiot and get a bit "rammy" sometimes.. As I was effectively the cause of him having to pay money to get something repaired, I felt bad and offered to refund him the cash cost, as that is the non-dickhead thing to do and the guy is cool and given me smokes & booze in the past and is a young guy just starting a family.. Gotta treat people good who treat you good type deal.

Being one of the lucky few "bankless" individuals that are entirely in on crypto it's a bit of the pain in the arse for me to go from crypto to fiat dollars as it requires me to depend on someone with a bank account to receive the currency. I try to avoid it as much as possible to be quite honest.

Rather than have to arrange all the organizing the use of someone's bank account and whatnot decided it would be easier to just make the neighbour an account here on HIVE and send him what I owed him using the network. Serves triple purpose of paying him back, getting a new HIVE user and getting him to Crypto in general. If he wants to cash it out that is fine and I can walk him through that.. But I think once he sees what we've got going on in the community he'll likely be a good addition..

He's a young fledgling web developer just finished his first year of college and if you're getting into the IT / Web Developer industry at this point and not already using Crypto and incorporating it into your applications what are you even doing? Either way, this is a real world example on how you can spread the word about HIVE and other crypto currency usages. If you've got similar opportunities like this in your life it's beneficial for everyone and the HIVE network itself to funnel people in to using it.

So your onboarding method is to go around breaking people's shit and then compensating for said damage with HIVE?

Sounds like a viable approach to me.

Effectively.. I was trying to help him but ended up causing damage because of how highly graceful and observant I am. XD

Is it your "grace and observation" skills? Or could it possibly be the 17 pots of coffee and 10 packs of heaters consumed while keeping yourself awake for 5 straight days? Just curious....lol

Sleep is required but optional at the same time in most situations.. Probably doesn't help things after a certain point though staying up extended hours, I'd say 3 days or so is the sweet spot for maximum efficiency & being able to focus properly. Anything after that and you'll just be sloppy and clouded. lol

Ive been trying to organize a hiatus of Kansas City musicians to upend and leave facebook and come to HIVE. Maybe I should break their shit.

Seeing as this post is the first one I saw after being asked this question, who has good answers for this?

@brianoflondon

I think I am still missing something about Hive.

I keep hearing there's no cost.

You just have to stake some credits for resources, which you will get back.

But.... I don't get that. Why don't I use Hive as my database (possibly encrypted) for all my data?

And who's "paying" for that data to live forever on the blockchain? Or does it have a lifetime?

Are the servers for Hive just insanely large and they keep adding harddrives to them. For free?

EXPLAIN IT LIKE I'M 5 :D

The witnesses are the ones who pay resource costs of the network. We all run nodes that have the blockchain and other more specialized setups for serving API data or whatever.

As long as there are a few HIVE witness nodes going HIVE is saved and accessible.

Nothing wrong with encrypted data... Just make sure your encryption is good. :P

The HIVE nodes are beast.. Puts my PC to shame the requirements to run the big nodes RAM wise.

You have to kyc, but you get from crypto to fiat with no fees.

nice on boarded! that is a great thing to do and the story made me smile!

Heh, I might be viewed poorly in some circles, but I treat people who treat me well as to do anything less just makes you an asshole really, which I am.. Just not as much to the folks I don't mind. :P
