This happens a lot in games that allow the creation of private servers. I've seen several projects where people put in hundreds of dollars and a few months later the server was closed down.
i've never lost money like that... i lost an account on an official mu server that was worth that amount... i've lost tibia items worth almost 2k too... but always on an official server... I've only ever spent a lot of money on a private server...
