I'm not gonna give it away for free!

As the technology and internet rise in popularity, or should I say became a necessity, the usage of google search increases more than 100 fold since 10 years ago.

At the time, there was not much competition for google as yahoo search was sort of laggy and most probably still is. Could you imagine how much search data is stored in google database right now? Well, the amount really does not matter. What matters is how they use it. A star YouTuber made a video outlining the details of how your data is being used. That's right, your data is being abused for money and you might not know how.

According to the video I attached in this article, one email is valued at 89 dollars at the time of the video was made. Are you getting paid for it? I hope you do, because if you don't, then the data brokers are now bathing in the money that they made out of your personal (very personal) data.

Let me name you a few that "abuses" your data:

  1. Facebook (duh)
  2. Instagram
  3. Google search
  4. Google mail
  5. Tiktok
  6. DMV

And the list goes and on and on. You get the picture, if you are using the internet (Which I think you are right now) chances are that your data is floating around waiting for some creep to catch and sell it to the highest bidder.

While this is not recent news, the fact that matters is it is still darn spooky and is still a valid reason to be angry about. Luckily, we are living in an era where crypto is better developed compared to where it was 10 years ago.

Google may not be the dominator of search engine anymore with Presearch is up and running to be used as its alternative. Correction, while using Presearch, you are getting paid in PRE tokens for each search you make up to 8 tokens per day. Although I do really know that my search data is being used out there, why not get paid instead.

torum.png

Instead of using Facebook to check on your friends and to learn more about crypto, why don't you use Torum instead? It is filled to the brim of the latest news on crypto. I still believe that social media should model after it. It is by far one of the best blockchain social media out there that pays you to post, like somebody's post and many more. Its whitepaper is readily available for you to read to see the platform's progress.

There are a lot more tools that you can use to your advantage, instead of giving your data for free. My conclusion is if you going to use the internet anyway. Make absolutely sure that you are getting paid for your time.

Alas, I appreciate that you have taken your time to read this short article. Let's meet again somewhere in the next article. But for now, stay safe and ciao.

What did Adam Curry say? If it's free, you're the product. That's what I love about the blockchain, we can share, learn and have transactional ownership of our own data, while getting something back for our content on Hive and Leofinance.

Love that. I'm gonna keep that saying to heart.

Man, I remember the good old days. Dog Pile, Alta Vista, Yahoo, Magellan, Excite, Web Crawler, those were some golden days of the early Internet. It has been interesting to see how much Google has grown from that time. As you point out, probably a bit too big actually.

I still can vividly remember the dial up image on the screen during that time! Ah nostalgic as they say. Funny thing is if you think about it, it wasn't that long ago. I was in highschool that time so yeah.

Yeah, me too. I actually have the modem dial in as my text message alert. It freaks people out!

Alternatively, if you don't to keep your searches private, paid or not, then Duck Duck Go is a reasonable alternative...at least for now.
