Socking away USD 5 a day (plus the spare change that's in pockets, including dollar coins) is helpful, especially for handling regular expenses such as phone bills and laundromat machines. Making different decisions about eating habits helps also, but that's easier said than done.
Walking to a destination instead of taking mass transit helps in saving money, but that's if you stay local (within 3 miles/5 kilometers).
If you're in the habot of going to the movies weekly and buying food at the concession stands, one of the following can help keep money in your pocket longer:
- keep going to the movies weekly but reduce or eliminate the concession stand food; or
- go to the movies every other week instead of weekly; or
- combine the previous two suggestions.
