This is a great post and it also gives me a little bit of perspective. When I first started in 2018 on Steem I was ok with the platform but I couldn't see it going anywhere and didn't particularly invest in it.
I came back when lockdown started and noticed Hive had commenced and a whole new community has emerged which is awesome. I think I'm like 234 hive away from being a Dolphin, which I currently have pending power up day when I will stake.
I would have had a bit more but I decided to become a Leo redfish.
Most of the Hive I have at current has been investment. It's significantly hard to swim amongst all the whales and get close to what they achieve in an upvote. I want to invest in Leo but the 80% staked also scares me. Where it is great for our community it is also a massive risk should the price of Leo continue to rise and people begin unstaking and selling off for Hive and then selling off for fiat. Potential to crash both markets.
I was around for the initial Leo airdrop but didn't realise it was happening so missed out on my 1:1 pal. Which sucks but I'm here now so that's a good thing.
I want to make it to Whale, I don't think I will make it by producing content alone so will need to invest.
The only negative I have about both platforms is that people always tend to gravitate towards the witnesses or community leaders. This often drowns out redfish and I'd guess they will probably leave.
I don't know how to address that issue but either way, on my way to a Hive whale and a Leo Lion. Purely because that's the mascot! 🤪

I also joined in 2018 (around March) and didn't buy any because I didn't know how to and it was pretty high for me, then the price steadily declined throughout 2019 and I just bought about 25k over a period of months. Then the price went up with Justin Sun news, then Hive came then I moved over as all my friends did, sold my STEEM off and focused on HIVE of which Leo is a part!
Nice one on being so close to Dolphin! I'm holding off powering up the HIVE I have until the 1st as well, probably won't be able to power up as much this month, usually I try to get to 1,000 and the big bee... although I can be tempted lol
Yeah I know what you mean man, I've just kinda done my own thing, ventured in and out of different communities, stayed away from Discord and just do what I enjoy myself. Personally, I like crypto, travel and music so I try to focus on those communities but crypto is a big interest at the moment! Be patient, you will get noticed, turning up and being consistent is all there is to this game :) Regarding the price, I think a little differently, if the prices do go down, I see it as a good chance to buy in and there's many ways to accumulate stake (curating, posting, leasing, gaming, hive-engine tokens etc) so you don't necessarily have to buy if you don't want to.
For me, I think HIVE has pretty much been crashed to its (near) bottom and LEO had also been crashed due to the hack that happened a couple of months ago, it just bounced up a bit probably due to lack of available supply but there's a few thousand tokens being printed each day, which will continue to provide liquidity.
Whale is a great target to aim for! It will take time but I think we have plenty of it, plus early adoption, we may be in a good position to get a few more tokens than if the userbase just doubles (imagine if there were 1,000 users on Leo alone...). For what it's worth, I'm not affiliated with any witness or whale, I just post, interact, network and take everything as it comes with gratitude so you can make a success being a "free agent"!
There are a lot of good people wanting others to grow here, personally, @traciyork & @fionasfavourites are my go to if any newcomers need some help getting started as they tag me and I do what I can. It's hard to create content, comment on others on top of everything else (3D life etc) so many hands make light work and all that!
Probably went on for way too long haha! You set me off on a thought train there!

Haha yeah, I try to stay away boring people. I'm not often certain people actually read the comments but it's nice to drop one in.
I have seen @traciyork thats how I learned of the Hive PUD but I have no idea how it works also with time zones etc. I try, we'll see how it goes.
I recently got more engaged with discords the issue I find is they often just get flooded with post dumps. I will go through and upvite people but other than the main gang other users don't tend to upvote.
I've delegated to @featheredfriends its a great community where I can share my passion for birds. As I grow I am planning on delegating out to other communities. I've had the most growth from them so I want to help them out too.
If this ever goes anywhere (I'm quite skeptical as I think something newer and better will come out) then we will cross that bridge when it happens.
I think as soon as a platform interface like FB or Insta arrives it will take over. I've been following ecency and it looks like a great model. Makes it a bit mainstream.
This sort of layout is hard if you're not into blogging or use a smartphone as I do.
Anyway mate, good night and perhaps one day I will match you in Hive and Leo and what ever else emerges and we can light up the platform helping people grow. Or the tax man gets me.....

Not a problem :) I originally created this handle in 2018 for my wife and me to blog about the Western suburbs of Melbourne and showcase our awesomeness. But it has morphed into something more than that and a great way to learn about other countries, cultures and people.
I'm waiting for PUD day to become a dolphin so I am anxiously waiting for it, long time coming.

Discord... yeah, I barely check any more, would rather comment on stuff and there's way too much drama that goes on there, I stay away from that!
Oh nice! I've not come across Feathered Friends, not my area of expertise but glad you've found it and good call on delegating to other communities. It's a good way to both support them and earn tokens to go with it so help others and help yourself - abundance mindset, love it here!
You might be right about something newer coming, maybe if that Libra thing ever kicks off it might blow everything else out the water but we'll see how it goes - they've had many issues from what I gather!
Another mobile app is dapplr and I think peakd are coming up with their own mobile app soon too but I try to limit my smart phone use. I'm in front a PC most of the time anyway but I'm "old school" like that haha!

True, but there's some comfort in numbers and bumbling around together until one can navigate the currents. It took me a while. I guess, because I can't invest, and my departure point is to do what I can, and enjoy doing it, I'm not so concerned with the whales. I'm somewhat of a salmon, anyway...
This is exactly why my little contribution to #hivepud focuses on small accounts that are active. Not everyone gets the same benefit from incubator initiatives - I understand that it's different strokes for different folks - so it's one way of picking up some of the outliers. I hope, anyway.
This may be so, but for someone like me unable to invest fiat, I'm giving it a helluva go. It's a chicken and egg situation this social blockchain. I've opined before, that there is not enough real attention paid to quality content creators but hey, that's the way of the world. Similarly, one man's meat is another's poison.
