Network is definitely an important factor. As a bonus you gain friends in the community who will support you no matter what. A good example is what happened to me when I lost access to my account which I worked hard on for years consistently. I started again with my wife's account recently and was overwhelmed with the support. It is just a matter of not giving up and continue doing what you love doing.
