This question is a bit complex, I mean the answer, because even a token that is within the market of several exchanges in the end its legitimacy is tainted by some scam that makes the price drop completely.

Bitcoiners have a phrase: "don't trust, verify" and that's what we have to do. Just do some research, see statics, look for known people that use it, ask... It's easy to know when certain digital asset is scam or not.
