Rebranding Leofinance

Steemleo

When I first joined Leofinance, it had another name, Steemleo, and it was on the Legacy chain from which Hive forked.

When the Steemleo community left the legacy chain and moved to Hive @khal took advantage of the move to rename the community Leofinance.

It was a surprise because we had gotten to know Steemleo by that name, but it seemed like a natural evolution at the time, as the community matured and the direction it was heading became clear. It was very focused on Finance, and so much so that it seemed natural to incorporate it into the name.

Seeking Alpha

At the time Steemleo converted to Leofinance it also was in line with the other underlying desire to pattern the community after a popular web 2.0 community called Seeking Alpha, an investment blogging site with multiple authors producing good quality content and generating lots of traffic.

While SteemLeo and subsequently Leofinance were primary known for being tokenized social media sites, with a focus on investing, finance and cryptocurrency, the aspiration to one day be the cryptocurrency version of Seeking Alpha seemed natural. One of the criticisms of Seeking Alpha was that as a web 2.0 project it paid the content creators veeryr little and it seemed that all the money passed through them to the site creator and founder. Thus @khal seemed inclined to create a web 3.0 version of the site and not just emulate it.

The Leoverse

Fast forward in time to current era and once again Leofinance finds it at an important juncture, where it is evolving as a community into something different again. As @khal creates the Everything App and relaxs limits on Long Form posts to match the Every Thing Topic of Threads it seems natural that we would rebarnd again to another name.

And while I personally have always loved the name Leoverse as it preserves the symbol of the Lion and also conjures up mental images of a entity that we all don't really know what it looks like: The Metaverse that currently fictional, imaginary and futuristic entity where we wold live in the internet, experienceing things like content, movies, lectures, and even defi first hand through our Avatars.

In this context Leoverse seems appropriate as a evolution of the name Leofinance to Leoverse, to symbolize the next step in the evolution of SteemLeo. I cannot take credit for this name, as it has appearred in Discord, Threads, and even in longform posts which I read prior to wriing this post. Although I think the name existed in my mind for a while, this post is just my way of formally casting my vote for the name Leoverse. However I am also intrigued to find out what names others have come up with.

SteemLeo -> Leofinance -> Leoverse.
