The Duffer Brothers revealed that Holly Wheeler becoming a major character in Stranger Things final season was not even in the original pitch for Season 5, they wanted to get back to having actual kids in the show since the original cast all grew up so they elevated Holly from background character to one of the leads, they were super nervous about recasting since the character was played by twin toddlers before but found Nell Fisher who they saw in the Evil Dead Rise trailer and knew she was perfect, Holly gets targeted by Vecna just like Will did in Season 1 so the brothers wanted to recapture that energy from the early days of the show.
