Do you have a link to sign up for a Hive keychain, what the process involved is and will that secure the wallet also or just the hive engine tokens because one will still have the same keys from steemit.

You can find Hive Keychain on the Google Chrome Store (works for Brave as well). I don't use Firefox but I believe it is there as well.

Hive keychain in the Google Chrome store works in not only Chrome and Brave but also Opera.
Does it function to protect the keys to your wallet or just Hive engine. Do you have a link to the google store as awhile back I do recall a warning to people who were going to a fake google store site.
Hive keychain protects the keys of both regular Hive assets and Hive engine because you don't need to enter your keys in any of these websites at all. The keys never go to the site or even the code running in the webpage, just signatures made from the keys. From the signatures its enough for the blockchain to validate your posts and votes are made by you.

This is how far I got. If I put in the private key or master key isn't that the same keys carried over from steemit?
You can add your keys by entring a private key or your master password.
Alternatively, you can specify an authorized account or import your keys.
