Hive Derived

The vast majority of content on Hive is invisible, unless looking at the transactions on the chain itself. If you have a look through https://hiveblocks.com/ you can see how each transaction is formed and linked, but if you look through Hiveisbeautiful you can see the contents of a block visualized and then you will realize, just how much Splinterlands transactions are actually happening every three seconds. It is quite incredible.

As I have said many times before and even before Splinterlands existed, Hive is a general level content delivery blockchain that is content agnostic. The Hive blockchain doesn't care if you are submitting a team for battle, writing your life opus or shitposting a picture of your dog, the blockchain doesn't care.

When it comes to visible content though, people care, which is why there are so many issues surrounding type of content. But, this is also leading to an interesting future, because while there is no full consensus as to what is good, bad, valuable or valueless, content is Still king in regards to visualizing activity.

For example, with respect to Splinterlands, people will play the game and have fun, but what is probably the most valuable aspect of it is the community itself and that community is built over the space of the last four years or so on the back of content of some kind, whether it be on-chain through posts, or off-chain within Discord - content is the thing that builds the community and helps it to flourish.

In regards to the future of Hive, it is actually going to get very interesting as while people globally shift into Web 3 development potential, they are going to be building applications all over the internet but there is one thing that they will all want to do - build a community to support it. These come in many forms already and there are plenty of solutions that organizations large and small use for this, from Facebook pages to Enterprise-level tailored development, but as far as I know, none of them allow for the community platform of the application itself, to earn.

We are already doing this here of course, putting Hive above the curve, where for example Splinterlands the application is surrounded by several community-built solutions to do things from post about the game, manage assets, or buy cards on the secondary markets. And, all of these have some way to earn for both the developers and the community using them.

If you imagine that in some future where there is a demand by Web 3 applications to have community functionality, an industrious Hive developer could very well build out that solution with Hive capabilities of base layer and secondary layers built into it. This means that an application can have a relatively cheap and largely turnkey solution to host their community, whilst also having a value proposition for the community to use it and, even take some additional earnings on it either directly, or indirectly by being able to generate application demand through community information spread.

The @leofinance team are looking to do this with their own applications too, where they are trying to build more of a suite of experiences that supports their userbase. It is very ambitious given the size of the community and Hive as a whole, but fortune favors the bold and if there does come a magical time of mainstreaming Social Web 3, many are going to be pouring in from crypto corners, looking for a place to connect and trade conversation - whilst still having the potential to earn, and keeping aligned with their paradigm of decentralization and opting out of fiat.

While it is hard to see and perhaps acknowledge from inside the system, we are actually looking pretty good to meet the needs of the future, which is also why people like @theycallmedan is spending so much effort and resources on the Speak Network. He sees where the ball is heading and they are looking to position their business in the right spot on the field of play, before it arrives.

And then, there is the network effect multiplied by the compounding effect, where there is going to be many applications with overlapping userbase, but each user will be deriving value from several of those applications. This is where there is the potential for a huge amount of value to be created by the applications, but because they are partially owned by users too, it is not extractive from the userbase, it is generative for them too. Quite different from what Facebook and Google do.

And I will finish with what was on my mind when I started this article, where I was thinking about how so many people are negative about Hive-related content, but so much of the content is Hive-derived, even though it never talks about the platform, the governance, or the tokens directly. So much of what I read here is related to the experiences, uses the applications, talks about the possibilities or is developed with Hive in mind that it is amazing. Then, people are using the Hive-derived applications to develop, present and post their content too.

As more applications are built and more users come in even casually to be part of second layer apps, they too will start being part of the communities that form around them and many will generate more content that is Hive-base, even if they don't realize it themselves. In time, it is possible that the majority of content on Hive is "Hive content" because so many people are integrating the applications built on Hive into their lives, that it is natural to talk about what they are up to in their day, whether it be playing a game and talking strategy, or value potential and propositions of the latest application being released to cater for a market segment.

As Web 3 builds and starts to dominate the majority of the startup industry, there are going to be so many applications built with minor tokenization models, that they will be looking to partner with multiple chains to increase their market reach and user growth. Hive doesn't have to have a monopoly on the industry to be successful, it has to be a viable contender and with access to a qualified, experienced and staked userbase, it is going to continually be identified as a "must include" in the bundle.

Hive is a platform that can deliver many kinds of content like the internet itself, but it is a gateway to serve that content to an endless array of communities, all with the growing and innovating power of Web 3 technology integrated into it.

This content is Derived from Hive and Powered by Hive.

This qualifies as one transaction -
but will generate many times more.

where I was thinking about how so many people are negative about Hive-related content

That stems from moments when it's overpowering. For instance, if 'trending' looks like a cult preaching to choir, it's not helping. Easier to show what can be done by simply doing it, but explanations mixed in are necessary from time to time, especially if it's something new, or being overlooked. Problems require a spotlight, but say something like Hive politics, where one group has their heads shoved up their ass and only wants to insult an opposing force they've cooked up to suit their narrative, well, that stuff usually annoys people.

I get this side of it for sure, but I think that Hive content in general has started to expand in scope, where a lot of it is project based and of interest to several communities, as well as people who might not be around those conversations generally. Though, I also think that most people use Peakd, not hive.blog these days, so they get community and personal views more than the lumped trending.

Yeah. But the whole concept of hating Hive content is old, and comes from it taking center stage, when the substance was lacking. Of course yes, these days, it's not just some cheerleaders. It's more productive. I've actually recommended in the past on numerous occasions that sort of content get its own home, so it's easier to find, and not falling through the cracks mixed in with general content. Plenty of folks aren't informed, ill-informed, and sometimes misinformed. Right now I'm looking at a post "Hive CAIP 2" posted and meant for discussion but only see two "Very cool this is awesome!" comments under it, which isn't the intended audience. And where is the intended audience.... ?

Peakd's 'Chain News' there under the Feeds menu helps but not everything ends up there, unfortunately.

The intended audience is an interesting one, as I think there isn't an audience thought of at all for most content. One thing that issxi engaging about Hive content is that almost everyone is interested I it, since they are all on Hive. That doesn't mean all of what gets created is engaging or useful, but it gives the idea of low-hanging fruit for a "creator" doing it for votes. What they actually want is to get paid, not engage with the audience, and it shows. In some ways it is like me looking at the salaries of the NBA and trying out for the team, regardless of my skill set.

Was talking to someone the other day about getting downvoted and they would prefer not to be in trending because it comes with the wrong type of publicity. I see it as a, comes with the territory, position. Be consistent, quality and build support - more people will dislike than like. This is the benefit of a stake-based system though, as getting zeroed by a single large stake or two, can be counteracted by many smaller stakes - if there is wide support.

This is one of the issues with that group recently, they don't actually have wide support, because almost no no one reads their content. What they have is a large delegation they use primarily on themselves - so they aren't likely to build staked support anyway.

But it is almost 3am and I might be off on a tangent :)

Yeah, what you said is something I touched on in my recent post; more people will not like or pay no attention than those who will look, and maybe enjoy. Happens everywhere, with everything. Walk down the sidewalk. Notice how most people walk past, not even saying hello. And that's normal. Pull out a guitar, start singing. Still, most walk past, even though some stopped. Of the group standing there only a few step forward and put money in the hat. That's life. Sometimes that 'few' though can be quite a few more than the one just down the street.

Now if that busker stops playing and starts yelling at the crowd, along with saying the street is broken; yeah that'll turn a lot of folks away. Again, that's life.

And yes 'that group' kind of gave themselves a wake up call. The arrogance there was about all that was left. Also wrecked themselves well off into the future, since the doom and gloom tactic, instilling fear in one another, forced many to dump and run. So now there's even less support, and that'll leave a longstanding impact. Some ran to other platforms, taking their bad attitudes and arrogance with them, so it's only a matter of time before that all implodes as well. That's life.

I'm glad to see the teams didn't try and sprint and launch when they knew the issues they would run into in terms of locking up the chain with way too much unneeded things. Building their own platforms was the right move and one they will benefit from for a long time. Once it's in place there's really no stopping continued front end development that just continues to explode in all ways. I do see Hive itself turning more and more into a resource credit.

I think more and more, the devs will have hybrid solutions, keeping only vitals on chain or, weaving in other chains as support.

I do see Hive itself turning more and more into a resource credit.

At some point, I expect it will be removed as a reward for general content, but stay as a reward for staked users and witnesses of course.

I love that Hive is Beautiful view.

Do you happen to know what the LeoFinance transactions and LEO token transactions are shown as?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I have no idea hwat they appear as, but I have never seen one - but there must be. @hivetrending ?

@forexbrokr LeoFinance posts and comments show up as "Leo", and LEO token transactions show up as "H-E" (short for Hive-Engine).

Gracias.
Please don't answer in Spanish.... That is all I know :D

Ah awesome, thanks for taking the time to let me know :)

The depth and ability/usability is pretty profound. We are almost like that ever mutating corona virus, hundreds of little tendrils poking out shifting and mutating.

Much like corona virus, except more real :D

Hive doesn't have to have a monopoly on the industry to be successful

Monopolies are generally a terrible idea anyway.

and also that would be kind of anti-decentralisation and odd XD

Being able to automatically proliferate across a bunch of chains sounds useful (at least from a content creating point of view).

Yeah, people forget that they want decentralization, when they focus on speed of development and profits.

I can't figure out the people shitting on the content side of what Hive is all about. I've seen it many times, that Hive needs to "get rid of the blog aspect" of it. What the fuck is there left that isn't on another chain somewhere else with even faster transactions? Seems idiotic to criticize the blog sector. It's what drew me and countless others here. I think it's awesome to be able to blog about Splinterlands content and anything else we are interested in.

I saw the other day that Forbes posted about Splinterlands. I kind of think of it as the flagship product as far as mass adoption of it. I linked it in this crypto discord I'm in and one or two people were interested in it, but don't know if they will get into it or not. People are fickle, especially the crypto ones lol. Only get into things they find on their own sometimes, often are skeptical of what someone shares with them.

I think the reliance on the blog is more the issue - but I suspect that eventually it will be pushed to a second-layer token - but not yet. One of the massive benefits of being able to earn through blogging is the ability to stake without buying. I have taken advantage of this side of it and as such, will likely always be a major stakeholder (major in relation to most). I count myself lucky, but for every me, here are plenty of people who had a similar opportunity and sold.

I saw the other day that Forbes posted about Splinterlands.

I missed this! Would love to see more of these magazines with an SL logo :)

People are fickle, especially the crypto ones lol.

This is why price will never hold up long term, there has to be usecase of some kind also. Attract actual users with a reason, and they will create a rising floor for price to rest on.

Yeah Aggy did an interview with someone at Forbes, at least that's what is in the post. I have to read the Forbes article to just confirm!

Here's the post with it.

I think that Hive-derived applications have made HIVE more attractive and will do much more. For example, I become online on HIVE more than ever thanks to Ecency App. Otherwise, I think that I wouldn't be bothered with using browser to be online, it wouldn't be as easy as on a application.

I have heard that Leofinance team have launched a similar application as well, but I haven't tried yet.

THe Leo one is good, there is also Dapplr out there still I think. :)

I think that Hive-derived applications
have made HIVE more attractive and will do much more! 🤔

I for one will always be a hive blog fan . There is a wide range of communities on the platform that one can always pitch a tent with it . Another beauty of it , it is not restricted. For me it’s hive blog over peakd .. Once web 3.0 comes into full light hive will sure be another planet . Only time will tell ..

Please I do hear about this web 2 and web 3 every day you are mentioning. Please can you explain them to me.

You are going to have to start googling more :)

Thank you bro

It's fun looking directly at the Blockchain data, I use HiveBlocksHiveBlocks to get a very user-friendly view. I've learned a lot just from reading the transactions as they go by!
