I was hoping to reach 40,000 comments by today, but fell well short.

At this time last year, I was looking forward to Steem finally starting to get some traction, SMTs finally on their way, all of the time and effort finally starting to make a difference. Well - that didn't pan out quite as expected, but here we all are, on a new blockchain with all of the past securely stored.

For me, this is quite a big thing, as while others may not agree, I think that out of those 4000+ posts, there is some pretty decent material to be found and a lot of quotes that could be pulled and cobbled together into something that might make an interesting little book one day, to be a very important chapter of my life. Perhaps, I will hire an editor to do the work for me as in those posts there is the estimated equivalent of about 40x 300-page novels worth of text. It isn't all gold by any measure, but perhaps with a little work, there may just be some diamonds in the rough.

It has been a very interesting journey from three core perspectives that have become heavily entangled through my time here - work, economy and community.

I have always had a good work ethic to whatever I have turned my hand toward, but Hive has taken the level of dedication to a new level, as it is not salaried and there are no guarantees on any kind of return at all, yet I feel that it is valuable enough to work at, to participate. I haven't missed a day posting since mid-2017 and usually, it is multiple times a day, but I get a far greater sense of purpose in being here than much of the other work I have done in my life - that there is more cumulative value to it.

Which draws in the economic factors of being on Hive. A lot of people will limit this to the financial side with the rewards, returns and potential for profit, but there is more to it than that. Hive is building a functional economy that creates a direct link between work and reward, as well as bundling all kinds of value streams together to underpin the economy in what is a transparent and verifiable way. In time, people won't have to guess at where value lies, it will be trackable along the entire supply chain. Eventually, hype will have less effect and fundamentals more, connecting value to performance.

A core of the value on Hive, is the community itself. I have spent a lot of my life being quite independent and non-reliant on others, which could be due to my exclusion from groups as a child. It was face the world and fend for myself or, stagnate - and wear the consequences of inaction in an unsupported network. Support comes in many forms and I think that working for the community to try and bring value to individuals and therefore, the groups they frequent, has helped me develop a broader appreciation for community in general.

I think that as far as a society goes, these three things have to factor heavily, with work being done to help the community and in so doing, creating an economy. A healthy society is able to continually negotiate these areas to drive development through changing demand, with reward going to those who satisfy community needs. The current global economy does a very poor job of this for several reasons, with a major one being able to create wealth without bringing value to the community needs. The reward goes to passive actors who do very little to generate real value in the economy.

Many of the financial vehicles can generate large volumes of value, but solve zero problems we face and this highly incentivized disconnection of wealth from societal need, leads to a great many social problems as the needs keep growing, but the ability to deal with them is reduced. We see the effects of this behavior daily - with growing unrest mounting and adding pressure to our world. We are also seeing innovative reactions to this, through things like the development of Bitcoin and the drive from retail investors in the recent GameStop trading battle, which is already seeing a response from interested parties.

As you can see - I suck at birthdays.

I said to my wife that this was the 4th anniversary of my blockchain life - by the look on her face, I am not expecting a present to commemorate the day. I take things seriously and perhaps it might seem too seriously at times, but I enjoy what I do immensely, and am grateful to have a place where my thoughts can not only be aired, but be exposed to the perspectives and continued thoughts of others. I think Hive is a place where a community can thrive, by adding value to the community itself, and the direction the world is pivoting is going to be toward places such as this.

There is more to it than free speech and immutability, more to it than the possibility for financial return, more to it than the connection through creation and the support of others in the community - it is a bourgeoning economy in its infancy, but in time, it will challenge the giants and what we learn here, will be taught to others.

Wisdom can't be learned from a book, it has to be applied and in order to apply, participation is necessary. Age isn't an indicator of wisdom, nor are words - behavior is.

happy birthday.

Our stories are different but also similar. You stayed here entire time and I at times took long breaks/ thought about not returning here. But despite that I returned every time. It seems that it is not so easy to leave something after investing in to it a lot time, effort and having great memories about it.

I think that this is how investments should be, rather than positions for profit, they are lifestyles for well-being.

You cannot sent token to yourself.

For me a puzzle with 42000 pieces is a great investment. I will have a lot of fun for years(?) and by posting my puzzling updates I am also earning some hive. 😜

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Happy Blockchain Birthday!!! You have dropped a ton of knowledge bombs in your time here. I'm sure you will continue to gain wisdom and impart knowledge to those who are lucky enough realize the value of your words.

I really hope so. A colleague was saying how if he was given six months to live, would he spend it working. I will look deeper into this later, but for me, I would ramp up what I do here and pull as many people in as possible. My "career" wouldn't get my time.

Oh wow...my career wouldn't get my time either. What a tough situation to ponder. A great many of the people in my circle of acquaintances know little to nothing of crypto and have an even harder time understanding the social/crypto connection. We definitely need to bring in more people and I am sure that will happen sooner rather than later.

Most that hear crypto think "money" and those that get in, "profit" - it is a legacy mindset and in time they will understand it as "economy" where all kinds of interactions add to the dynamic.

Dear @tarazkp , What do you want to teach your small step?
Did you tell your wife that you can get rich using bitcoin?

Wisdom can't be learned from a book, it has to be applied and in order to apply, participation is necessary. Age isn't an indicator of wisdom, nor are words - behavior is.

I agree with you! Rapid changes in the present world cannot be understood by past knowledge and experience.
I have read the works of the Australian poet @tarazkp so far, but it was difficult to understand his thoughts and life.
I understood @tarazkp as an anarchist. It's still hard to understand how the decentralization system through the blockchain, he claims, benefits me.

Perhaps because of my poor English communication skills, I will not understand his argument.
So, I decided to gain experience by speculating on Bitcoin.
Buying and selling bitcoins will help me understand his ideas.

Perhaps @tarazkp is disappointed by my poor understanding.
Still, I at least thought he was an outstanding poet.

Also, I thought his wife was the blonde beauty commonly imagined by East Asian men. 😉

What do you want to teach your small step?

Tools to help her have a good life.

Did you tell your wife that you can get rich using bitcoin?

No. She doesn't know much about it.

It's still hard to understand how the decentralization system through the blockchain, he claims, benefits me.

Are you working for it, are you putting value in, are you participating with the goal to improve yourself and world?

Buying and selling bitcoins will help me understand his ideas.

Depends. If you are focusing on profit alone, you will miss my point.

My wife is a blonde beauty. :)

53 moons, oh that's cool, Happy Blockchain Day!

If only there were a few more HIVE moons along the way

Congratulation @tarazkp, You have touched a milestone of comments and posts.

Considering it is all manual, it is a fair bit :)

Happy Hiversary :)

I don't know why, but Hiversary sounds like something found at a nunnery.

Now I'm going to be spending the entire time I wait to go to sleep trying to figure out which bit or what kind of item in a nunnery XD

"Sister Margaret, did you remember to lock your Hiversary?!

Happy Block Chain B Day @tarazkp . Like you I try to stay in here daily, which is tough at the moment with everything going on here at the moment, but I think in the long run keeping the connection stops me drifting away. You and your bro have kept me mindful in my few years here and have been very inspirational. Don't you be going anywhere ;) see you on the 5th anniversary!

I am not planning on heading anywhere else any time soon.

but I think in the long run keeping the connection stops me drifting away.

Yep and I think this works in a couple ways, as it connects to the community, but also can build a habit that is valuable personally. I am not a fan of routines, but hygiene is important and this is part of my daily mental hygiene routine :)

'mental hygiene' love it! Yup that's how I look at it as well.

Happy birthday, I agree that the community is the real reason I have stayed here. I wish I could write as well as you and post every day, but you and @galenkp write great thought provoking posts that I enjoy every day.

I think everyone can write daily, it just requires finding the groove.

While we are brothers, I am unsure how much that has to do with our approaches to this, but it might have some genetic component. I think that one thing going for us is that we are pretty much comfortable being who we are, we don't have to try to be something we are not. It makes a difference to the journey.

Enjoying it is enough, the blockchain I mean. We all have value to bring and are all different, that's what makes it interesting.

Congrats on the four year mark, it is hard to believe it has been that long for this year. I hit my fourth in Aug. Time has certainly flown by. It is so nice to see the community grow, not so much the number of people, but the idea of Hive as a community.

People from all over the world and from all walks of life. Rich, poor, talented, and untalented, there seems to be a place for all of us to play here on Hive.

I like khow inclusive it is and how so many different types of people and content can get support. It isn't easy for many of course, but what of value is easy?

If people focused on their content instead of worrying about how much someone else is getting more would be happier, and they may find it just a little bit easier.

Happy blockchain anniversary, @tarazkp. It has been a real pleasure to read you since two years ago. I still remember the first post I commented to you. There you were talking about your dancing skills, but you were really talking about how people should, in all aspects of life, do what they like, enjoy. Many of the texts you have written have been teachings, insights that I have valued very much. I do not know you personally, but I have managed, through your texts, to know a little bit about you. With certainty you can say that in a place in Venezuela there is someone who admires you and has used your texts as an example. ;) Hugs

Congratulations @tarazkp! You received a personal badge!

Happy Hive Birthday! You are on the Hive blockchain for 4 years!

You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking

Next Hive Power Up Day is February 1st 2021

Congrats on your birthday. I just hit my three year a short time ago. I wish I had gotten involved around the same time you did. I think that extra year really would have made a big difference for me. My whole outlook on this place has definitely changed quite a bit over the past three years. I am getting so much more than what I ever expected from it and not even in the same areas I was expecting to get something. Does that make sense?

53 moons is good amount of time, especially in crypto years.

happy 53 moons.

Well, Happy Hiveversary!

Your stick-to-it-iveness has always impressed me and you have perhaps helped shape this community more than anyone else from a content creator angle. Sure, it's important to have people who know the tech end of things, but "social" are nothing without content worth reading. And you have that, in spades.

I'd like to think we are part of building a new economic/community model. It's all a big experiment. After four years, I'm grateful it's all here.

Sorry there will be no cake for this day!

You have crammed so much into 4 years and one more year left of your new degree in block chain technology. Things have changed so much and I must imagine your thought process from the first year to now has changed quite a bit. Good stuff though and happy block chain birthday.
