I personally don't understand how these shared nodes work at all. I'm guessing it's what STINC used to provide, but how could we fork to HIVE and keep their nodes?
I think is something related with the hivemind infrastructure, both chains work with it
That could well be the case. Hopefully it will all be cleared up soon.

We didnt keep their nodes. A number of people on Hive set up their own. It was part of establishing a new blockchain.
It would be a timing thing to have both down, if that is the situation with Steem. I heard they were trying to put another fork in but who knows.
