It was encouraging to see that the Mets won series against the Guardians and Rays and those teams went kept on winning. Those were good teams. Let's hope the Mets are over the hump at playing lousy against the lesser teams #mlb #sports

It is important to get the wins against good teams. They blew so many games that they, on paper, should have won.

Oh well, dig a hole and climb out of it.

Speaking of rookies, is there a draft in the MLB similar to the NFL?

1/ Yes for American kids. They draft from both high school and college. However, unlike the #nfl and #nba, these kids have 3-5 years in the minor leagues before they see the majors.

2/ Outside the US, there is what is called the international free agency market where the kids are signed at about 16 to contracts. Each team has a certain amount in bonus money it can spend and it has to spread it over its signings.

3/ Alvarez, the kid we just mentioned, is from VZ so he was an IFA signing as a 16 yr old. He is now in the majors at 21.

The #mets won the last 5 in a row. Need to keep the ball rolling.

They have to win series. They can't sweep every team, but if the Mets can continue winning series then at the right time reel off a long winning streak then it could erase the bad start @taskmaster4450le Baby Mets gave the Vest a butt kick!

That is the key. Sweeps in the big leagues are tough.

Take 2/3 in Chicago and get out of town to Denver.

The #mets should beat the #cubs but should doesnt come into play.

It's easier to say that when the team is at home. Cubs will give them a good fight, but it would be huge for Megill to go into Wrigley and pitch a good game and the bats have to come alive earlier in games. Take leads not give 'em.

Yeah. Megill needs to duplicate what he did against Tampa.

The Cubs have a few hitters that will be a problem if Megill and the rest of the pitching staff is not prepared for them. With that said Mets beat two pretty good teams recently. Smyly is off to a very good start 4-1 and ERA under 3.

They have Swanson who killed the Mets as a Brave. So hope it was the uniform and his luck ended when he changed teams.

Swanson is having a very good year. That was one of the best off season signings hands down @taskmaster4450le

Trea Turner is off to a slow start.

The Mets also will face Stroman I believe.

Cool! Let's go! Gonna be a long night so might as well have some fun watching the game

We need to get to 150 threads in there. Lets get it active.

I hope it doesnt freezes, but let's give it a go!

@jimmy.adames

How about the start Trea Turner got with the #phils?

Did you imagine he would have such a rough go of it. He was very consistent, at a high level, through his career.

That is a case of where the WBC may have something to do with his slow start. He was on fire during the World Baseball Classic. His brother had a similar bad start with his big first year contract with Texas last season I believe.

Actually, it wasn't Trea. I was thinking of the Seagers. But yes, @taskmaster4450le and playing with Philadelphia, I read they are booing him hard lol. He did admit that he would boo him too.

Alvarez is not starting and fans are chirping and I can understand that, but he has gained respect for his work ethic and the pitchers like throwing to him and he can hit. He will be the starting catcher for many years to come.

He will be but why not start him on a day off. Unless Sanchez has huge numbers against the Cubs SP.

That probably makes the least sense. If it was Nido I can understand that, because Nido is a very good catcher sucks as a hitter but pitchers like to throw to him. Sanchez is horrible. With that said, Sanchez came up hot so let's see.

Yeah although Nido needs to be DFA.

He sucks and is really nothing more than a journeyman catcher. They are a dime a dozen.

We need Sanchez to face Blake Snell. He crushes that guy lol.

Well it is an interesting approach by Buck. As long as they keep winning.

Buck is starting to show how he is anti-kid.

He likes the vets evidently.

The Baby Mets have proven how important they are to this team. Not that they are going to hit 30 homers and drive in 90 this season, but it allowed the veterans to breathe, start to have fun and in some ways shown up by the kids - but good.

Alvarez would hit 30 if he played full time. He is already at 5 in spite of his issues. Imagine if he gets on a roll. He is the type that can hit 12 in a month.

Did a search and found a list of pitchers Sanchez has faced and Smyly is not on the list, but he is batting .333 since being called up, which of course is misleading because it's only been a few at-bats and only one RBI @taskmaster4450le

Yeah what is he? 1-3?

So not exactly a large sample size.

Is Alvarez one of the star players of the team?

He's a rookie, but is one of the top if not the top prospect in the Mets organization @tokenizedsociety

Ah I see, thanks!

He is in his first year but is the highest rated prospect in the game. So the potential is there. He is only 21 so showing great maturity.

I hope I can be ready to start at the very beginning of the game because I have no idea how a match is "kicked off". The game I watched had already started by the time I got to tune in

The batter steps into the batters box and the first pitch is throw. The first at bat and the 20th of the game look the same.

Got it. Do they flip a coin to decided who goes first or something like that?

Home team is in the field first, visiting team hits first.

That way the home team gets the last at bat...it is called last licks.

Last licks haha cool

Good to know the lingo

Yeah I figured it would be good to get some of that in.

So tonight the Mets will be at bat first.

Expect Alonso to unload a couple moon shots in Wrigley @taskmaster4450le but I predict that Vientos is going to come up huge in this series. Just a feeling.

If the wind is blowing out, a great way for the hitters to pad their stats.

Then a trip to Colorado which is always pinball numbers.

Late start @jimmy.adames.

The time zone is always tough to take.

Drew Smyly was awesome a few years ago. I dont know how he is now. I guess we will find out.

Damn Smyly is having a terrific year.

Looks like a tough match up.

Ernie Banks was one of the all time greats. Vastly underrated in terms of his place among baseball elite.

Is there any kind of rule for jersey numbers or they can pick whatever?

From 0-99.

The only one cannot pick is 42 which is retired across baseball for Jackie Robinson and some teams have retired numbers for some of their great players.

For the Mets 17, 41, 31, 37, and some others are retired.

I see... but do numbers have any relation with the position they play

Not exactly although there are some characteristics. You rarely see a pitcher with a single digit number. Also relief pichers tend to have some higher numbers...in the 50s and 60s.

Damn Nimmo would have been on third if it wasnt in the net.

Good start.

@jimmy.adames

I hope your Pete forecast comes true.

He didnt want anything to do with Pete. He wasnt going after Pete that hard.

Lets see if the first baby Met comes through.

What a drop off in temp tomorrow.

Vientos swung through the curveball. At least they made Smyly pitch.

Need another good start from Tylor Megill.

A nice way to start. Got one out.

Ouch. Nice play by Escobar. Too bad he probably is going to find the IL on this.

It looks bad.

So just now one guy threw the ball and another guy who was standing by one of the cases caught the ball and tapped on the ground a few times. What does that mean?

1/ I didnt see it.

If there is a force, no need to tag the runner. If no force, then a tag is required.

At first base, the hitter running is always in a force, hence only have to touch the base with the foot.

2/ On the bases, there is a force only if the runner behind is forced by the hitter. In other words, first and second, then any play means a force is in play.

Nice inning for Megill. Good to put a zero up in the first inning. The Mets need to keep doing that.

So far, easy inning for Smyly. The Mets are giving up the good first inning.

The Mets were lapdogs there. Bad at bats.

Well he crushed that.

At least he got the first out of the inning.

Man Sanchez has no mobility behind the plate.

At least he got the strikeout. Now need to get the third out.

Gomes had some big hits when he was with the Nats.

Damn another run in 2-0.

Two out RBIs are fatal.

This is the Mets modus operandi.

They cannot get the big out when they need it.

Unreal. How come these guys cant get the third out in an inning.

An easy out there. Sanchez with a weak fly to right.

Nimmo overmatched there.

Another weak inning. Not jumping on Smyly in the first will haunt them.

Good start. Lets see if he can keep it up for 3 outs.

Two quick outs. See if he can get the third.

He got the third out.

Need to get some runs now.

Lindor is a smart player.

@jimmy.adames

Pete did crush that one. Too bad nobody on. The Mets are on the board.

4-1 #cubs.

This playing from behind is getting old quick @taskmaster4450le but the Polar Bear is doing his part!

Yeah and the Mets giving the runs right back.

How many two out RBIs have we seem the last few weeks?

This one is looking bleak @taskmaster4450le Soul sucking.

Not even competitive. Back to looking like a dead team.

Imagine if Pete does go for 60 this year.

Vientos is showing that he has holes. I am not really high on his overall as a prospect.

Could be something but I feel a better trade chip.

Oh wow, my stream crashed when it was 2-0 for the Cubs now stream is up again and it's 4-1. Very dynamic match it seems

Shitty pitching. A couple homeruns. A two run shot by the Cubs and one by the mets.

@jimmy.adames

Pete Alonso hit a HR. That was something he called earlier today.

Nothing after Pete's blast.

At least they inched closer.

Holy shit. Did I just see that? He dropped the damn ball.
