Traditional education is becoming more and more obsolete. Employers must start hiring more workers skilled through alternative routes instead of only looking for fancy college degrees.

With time we'll see how this plays out. I believe we'll soon be heading Into an era of having great thinkers and skilled people getting the work done.
It'll drive more people to start getting more skill to speak for them than depending on just a certificate to do the talking.

I have met some college educated folks that were dumber than a box of rocks. Then I have known folks with minimal formal education that would rival a college professor with their intellectual prowess.

Even some of my college mates are not exactly smart. They just learned really well to replicate everything they were told

I had a similar experience. Some who studied with me in college it was clear that they couldn't read well and that's surreal.

I think this change has been happening for a while. I have heard quite a few stories about how traditional education hasn't exactly given people the best workers.

Here in Brazil is still very hard to find a job without a degree. Some companies won't even consider a candidate without one
Startups are helping to change that notion though

This is what is going to really mess up the upper education system, especially in the US. Many are realizing that spending all that money on a 4 year degree taking a lot of worthless classes makes no sense.
Hence go the direct route of training for the specific job.

Over time, it is even common for these changes to exist, perhaps the pandemic only accelerated this process.
