Matic is a well-known network coin called Polygon, which the platform has reportedly been attacked for in the hopes of stealing money. Now the platform has announced that They are the victims of hacking. Which allows hackers to remove coins from the platform This shows that even a secure network and is popular in terms of use can be hacked
Polygon is hacked
In a blog post on their website, Polygon's team confirmed the vulnerability and led to the hack, explaining that they were actually aware of the vulnerability, which made it a potential white hat hacker. The vulnerability was part of a bug in the Bounty program he set up with Immunefi, and they worked to fix it.
However, before the recommended upgrades that are offered to the node operator take full effect, Hackers can take advantage of these same vulnerabilities. To steal coins in a series of transactions, Hackers managed to extract 801,601 MATIC worth over $2 million.
Polygon Foundation has come out to say that The users of the network are still safe and those who cause damage will have to pay.
Fix vulnerabilities
There was concern among the Polygon community, on December 5th there was a sudden hard fork. Release of major upgrades without prior notice. Causing community members to wonder What was the motive for the upgrade? It turns out that Polygon was actually a victim of hacking and this data was kept for almost a month.
In the announcement, Polygon confirmed that they had a vulnerability under the supervision of the team Polygon and Immunefi, and that white hat hackers took advantage of the vulnerability.
An upgrade that was postponed on December 5 came into effect, Polygon explained that this would fix the problem. "Authenticators and node commuity have been notified, and they are encouraging core developers to upgrade 80% of the network within 24 hours with no breaks," the statement reads.
The white hat hackers who helped discover the vulnerabilities received over $3.46 million in compensation, which was awarded to those who discovered the vulnerabilities. Polygon's troubles are over for good, while Immunefi CTO Duncan Townsend said it "could be a huge disaster".
