HIVE is likely the most decentralized blockchain on the planet. BTC has mining pools and few of them working together can temporally take over the blockchain and cause havoc. To cause such damage to HIVE, far more parties will have to work together (or be compromised). Even if exchanges powered up their $HIVE, they are not counted for governance for 30 days. Attacking HIVE is a very risky move for anyone that does not have deep pockets to loose hundreds of millions.
Even if that happens, we have proven that the community can fork to a new chain and grow even stronger.
