HIVE Is Going To List Shares On The Nasdaq.

The headline says it all, however, if you didn't know, there is another blockchain company in the crypto space with the name HIVE. They are based out of Canada and some of what they do is mining of ETH and BITCOIN. While they have been public for a while they have just announced getting listed on Nasdaq.

Crypto Miner Hive Blockchain to List Shares on Nasdaq

Hive Blockchain Technologies, a publicly traded Canadian crypto-mining company, said it received approval to list its common shares on Nasdaq.

The article goes on to say that HIVE's share price is up 33% this year.

It seems the company is also investing in a DEFI project as well.

I went to the Website to learn more about the company, and found their company quite interesting , they also have mining facilities in Iceland which are benefiting from the volcanic activity there. (someone should tell Elon)

image.png

HIVE owns state-of-the-art blockchain infrastructure facility in Iceland consuming total energy of ~4 MW, and producing cryptocurrency around the clock.

Turns out El Salvador brought this idea to the forefront for a bit, but other Bitcoin Mining Operations were already looking for clean, cost-effective ways to Mine, strictly because it makes good business sense.

I was curious how the price was responding to the new listing, so I looked at their charts.

A Quick Look At HVBTF Stock

HIVE’s stock has experienced lightning-fast price action.

As recently as January of 2020, HVBTF stock was available for just 9 cents. It then soared to a 52-week high of $5.75 in February 2021. However, the share price has retraced to the $3 range since that time

Google TipRanks

Investors who appreciate the fast pace of Bitcoin (XBT) and Ethereum (ETH) will like HIVE Blockchain Technologies (HVBTF). This stock can serve as a proxy for accounts that do not permit cryptocurrency trading, such as some retirement accounts.

HIVE is involved in green energy, which is a red-hot market in 2021. Plus, HIVE now has a DeFi (decentralized finance) angle, which could enhance the company’s shareholder value even further.

Originally, my interest was the name and concern if there will be Brand confusion and possibly actions against the HIVE Blockchain, once I started looking at the company, the news, and how they are setting themselves up in the space.

I think this company might be worthy of Investment as they too are early to the space and seem to have a great plan which is adapting to Market Conditions. It's a good time to be in Clean Energy Bitcoin and Eth Mining.

Regarding the name, who knows if it will be good or bad for HIVE to share a name with a Blockchain Company and if there is a battle over the name, I have no idea how that will play out. In the past I have seen large companies offer to pay another company to stop using the same name and I have also seen lawsuits, (who would they sue though?) In any case I see several reasons to keep an eye on this company. https://hiveblockchain.com/

It's a really interesting company, that seems well positioned in the current market environment, with everyone interested in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, but also concerned about environmental impacts.

What do you think will happen with the name?

Do you think it is good or bad to share a name with this publicly traded company?

Let me know what you think in the comments

At this point instead of a BTC ETF, we need a Crypto company index with all these companies going public. 🤔

For sure someone will curate a list of blockchain companies that are public.

It's really interesting company though

Do you mean hive.io, hive.blog, hive the token, or hive the protocol?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

They're named after the bee house. We're named after the skin condition.

Clearly we should just drop the E.

HIV

Our favorite crypto could have a name conflict with The Hive Blockchain Company, or it could chane its name to that of a deadly virus. This is a no-brainer....

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

you silly goose and your clickbait headers 😅

Did you really think our Hive could get listed? :)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

When they forked Steem a couple of people (me included) brought attention to this issue. The above-mentioned company even started the cease and deceit actions against our blockchain. But ex steemians and new hive chain enthusiasts were laughing at us.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I still haven't decided if it is good or bad to have the brand confusion, but yeah, I find it odd no one did a quick google search of the name.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

it is always bad to have no clear brand. But only longterm shows that for the price.

Croatia has a a famous food condiment (or whatever they call these things). Its name is Vegeta.

image.png

Now, i dont know if you follow anime but one of the most famous anime characters in the world is from Dragon Ball Z. His name is Vegeta as well. You know the meme. (ITS OVER 9000!!!!) 😂

image.png

Vegeta is a Sayan from the planet Vegeta that was destroyed by Freeza when he committed genocide on the planet Vegeta. (planet has same name as Vegeta).
Vegeta was Gokus nemesis until they became best friends through their rivalry.

Long story short.😂 Having a brand clash is not a good thing. Condiment Vegeta has been battling for Vegeta name supremacy with Sayan Vegeta for decades.
Hive blockchain technologies cant touch us in terms of name but the clash will make it harder to position ourselves in the google search.
Anything positive they do for themselves might not be playing to our benefit. The opposite might be true.

Interesting, great example.

I just said in chat that the brand battle is only good for as long as we have no brand or identity. If we ever want one, it's going to be hard to overcome.

Exactly. Dont say i said it, lol, but naming our blockchain Hive was a mistake.
Not much we can do about it now except fight hard to exceed Hive blockchain technologies in the supremacy in exposure.

In the example of Vegeta. It can be done.

We could bite the bullet and rebrand. The longer we wait, the more confusion and more expensive in terms of lost mindshare when we do finally rebrand.

It might not be so hard to get consensus if we do come up with a good brand, witnesses sometimes just go with the flow when someone makes a coherent plan and enough people get behind it.

Yeah, i thought about that. Once @blocktrades figures out SMTs and when we will make strides there it would be a definite maybe.
Im positive most investors arent averse to rebranding.
But wed need massive change. Massive effort on achieving consensus on what we want to do.
What we want Hive to be. Its not just about changing the name.

We still carry Steem baggage. Wed need a clear focus on one thing that is a game changer.
Im thinking plug and play BSC, ETH, Solana competitor that requires 0 coding skill. And i mean 0.
A child coming in creating their own dapp and token. We have been, kind of set up for it, but never came to fruition with @ned.
We have stuff in place. Stuff people understand. Subreddits in communities. Blogging, gaming. etc.

You want people being able to create an account with a phone number verification, click 5 times and they have a BSC, ETH type token ready to go with current Hive proof of brain.

That is my hope. Making crypto so accessible that a nun can create a worship token, a kindergartener can create a hello Kitty token.
Thats where i see Hive.

Im just throwing out ideas as i write this but making something STUPIDLY (and i mean stupidly) easy to access is what i feel can take us to the top.

As I was tagged here, I'll respond briefly.

I think there's no real brand confusion of significance between the two names. The fact that the OP knows it'll be a surprise and spends so much time telling people here about that company pretty much says it all, IMO. I've worked in cryptocurrency for years and wasn't aware of them prior to the launch of Hive.

I have laughed at a couple people who were seriously concerned about the trademark claim, because I have a fair amount of experience in this area, and I never thought there was anything to be concerned about with that regard.

Nor do I think that the choice of the name "Hive" has any real positive or negative impact on Hive's success. The biggest issue I've seen is a few people on chain who keep complaining about it and whatever time someone else spends replying about it. I know that won't be a popular opinion with them, but that's how I feel about it. The time spent could be much more profitably focused on external marketing, in my opinion.

As a side note, I do agree that what does need to be done is focus on making Hive the most attractive platform for blockchain-based software development and marketing that aspect of it.

I think there's no real brand confusion of significance between the two names

There is a branding issue. But its more on the side of their company asserting the name that doesnt really justify their niche.
I gave an example of the Vegeta condiment vs Vegeta anime. That is a true problem that has been even discussed in our news.
Thats not saying that we cant battle it.

the trademark claim

Thats nonsense. It really is. If anything "Hive Blockchain technolgies" is in the wrong here for misleading their investors.
But i still have to mention the example of "No Mans Sky" (a videogame) that was sued by "Sky" the media conglomerate over use of "Sky" (as if they own the sky) in their effort to get them to change the name. It failed spectacularly. Giving credence to our position that any trademark dispute over "Hive" is ridiculous.

The time spent could be much more profitably focused on external marketing, in my opinion.

haha. Come on. I comment less than you do. Things are set up for tomorrow. I need some time to speak my mind. Share some ideas i might have. :)
I might be lying there. But im not lying by much. 😄

I knew right away when reading the headline its the "other" HIVE network not the one we are on or are "We" the "Other" Hive Network. Afterall they had the name first. Someone suggested in a topic I was reading that "we" should drop the E from HIVE and be HIV. I think its a good idea to avoid future conflict.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Now research HIVEMIND!

shall I make a post tomorrow?

Yes but you may be called a conspiracy theorist...

Calling people weird labels to discredit them is lame. doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but it's either funny trolling or pointless words.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Edward Bernese worked out the value of labels a long time ago and its still a favourite tactic. I've been called that for more than 20 years so i think of it as a compliment, given that we are pretty much proven right every time!

Honestly there are so many companies, projects etc with the name HIVE that it really doesn't matter it's super common. If anything this is our chance to take the hype around that company and use it to our advantage for SEO ranking etc.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah, especially when there already isn't a serious brand in place.

It would be nice if we would get some exposure based on name similarities.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Originally, my interest was the name and concern if there will be Brand confusion and possibly actions against the HIVE Blockchain…

Right after the fork, Hive Blockchain Technologies put out a press release complaining about our name.

Then . . . crickets.

I’m guessing they finally realized there’s nobody to sue and not even an address for a cease and desist letter to be sent to.

yeah, the legal battle would be interesting.. We will see. Like you said who does one sue.

On the other hand we've all seen questionable websites removed from DNS servers and that's a pretty drastic action...

Have no clue if it is good or bad. You would have hoped when the name first came up people would have at least spent time researching. The first thing you do when looking for a business name is to do some research so this type of thing never happens. Possibly this is the difference between a developer and someone with more business skills. This is just plain common sense ad should never have ever been an issue.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I have heard people say that they knew, but decided it was a non issue

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Well if that is the case they are that simple and should not be making these types of decisions. I have heard people say the problem with Hive is they are good at developing but developers have no clue on marketing and this is just another example. Too smart for your own good with no common sense which actually makes them dumb.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It's fine not to know everything, but it's a problem when you feel qualified to make all the decisions.

Is this the wild west of blockchain tech? We should piggy back them all the way to the moon lol. That being said, I do like the idea of dropping the 'E'.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Maybe the rebranding-- if it becomes necessary-- can be something adjacent. If that is doing business as Hive Blockchain, perhaps the cryptocurrency whose children include LEO and CUB could be rebranded as Hive Platform, Hive-IO, or even BeeHIVE.

I'm not saying it will get to that stage; I'm just suggesting branding posibilities.

I realize that paperwork is involved in branding even if it's to correct a typo, so it may not be so easy.

Typo-- CH--EFS

Correct name-- CH-I-EFS

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I noticed that from the beginning when I wrote somewhere that the name should be chosen by the community. Then it was chosen by witnesses. While in my opinion we should have a post or a poll to choose that. But seems everyone was exited about a new blockchain and noone cared about the existence of hive blockchain company. But after all we are not a company. I don't think we are competing with them somehow. The are centralized and we are decentralized. Will I ask someone or sue him if he/she will create pepsitoken or pepsicoin on a blockchain.

Maybe that's the only thing that make me not think, we will have trouble. lol It's too late to change the name anyway.

I'm lost. lol

I bought this stock at .18 cents and sold at $6 ...

Maybe we should change the name Hive to POB ?
