Selling Ads for Alt-Coins like LEO or HIVE

in LeoFinance4 years ago

I was inspired to write this post after reading a post on LeoFinance's proposal to buy and burn LEO with ad revenue.

I believe that buying LEO with the ad revenue is a great idea. However, I think LeoFinance should use the LEO rather than burn it. For example LeoFinance could use the LEO to buy advertising for LeoFinance.

So, lets get to my post. The ad revenue on my personal web sites keeps falling. A primary problem is Adware, ad blocking software and the Brave Browser strips the tracking bits that advertisers require in order for me to get paid.

The picture for the post shows the Brave Logo blocking the advertisement for a small Main Street business that recently closed shop:

Adware and ad-blocking services have destroyed the ability to fund sites through ad networks.

Perhaps crypto-currency might emerge as a way to fund web sites.

Advertising is about communication. I personally think that the best way to sell ads is to communicate directly with other people.

LeoFinance has a social media platform that allows people to communicate. It has the LEO token which works in concert with the HIVE token.

It is possible that LeoFinance might be a great tool for people to use to advertise their ad offerings and that LEO might be a great token to use for buying ads.

Shameful Self Promotion

Anyway, I would like to end my post with a self promotion because I have a huge amount of ad space for sale. Including a boat load of ad space directly applicable to finance and cryptocurrency. I am willing to trade adspace for HIVE or LEO. I would be willing to power up the LEO for a holding period.

I whipped up a sample ad for LeoFinance. I've been selling ads in blocks of 100,000 for ads sold through Paypal. I am willing to sell ads on a CPC rate for crypto as it doesn't have the high transaction cost.

Advertising has been dominated by questionable networks. If there was a way to communicate, then people could negotiate and sell ads directly.

I’m sure it’s in the works peakd has a cool native ads program and I’m sure leo could adopt something similar in the future there also used to be a dAPp on STEEM called dclcik where people could sell space In their posts but don’t know what happened to it

as a stakeholder, it makes sense to advertise leo for free. Also, web directories are so 2004. Nobody reads them and they have zero seo benefit.

As a stakeholder in HIVE and LEO, I have put thousands of links to the platform this year.

I also have ad space to sell. For example, I have a web 1.0 style directory. The HIVE resources page has over fifty free links to HIVE related resources. This directory structure gets about 5 million hits a year. There is an ad at the very top of the page to fund the directory.

The fact that I have ad space to sell does not mean that I haven't given out thousands of free links.

The ad currently goes to Overstock.com via a CJ link. I would prefer to sell it directly.

Let's say I managed to sell my adspace for LEO rather than through CJ. Even though I will need to sell the LEO to pay for my web hosting fees, there is a small amount of value given to the currency through that transaction.

The true value of a currency is realized when people use it as a currency and not simply when people hoard it.

doubt anybody visits web directories anymore, let alone clicks ads on them. So that dtransaction will have zero benefit. I may be wrong of course, although judging by its alexa ranking (true, it's not a perfect metric by no means) I doubt it gets 5 million hits a year. More like 5k a year.

Thank you for the thousands of backlinks thoug

This year the ad at the top of the page has delivered 20,529 clicks. That is about 1 click for every 200 page views.

The links get more traffic than the ads. I track about 10% of the links. The links I've tracked have received 626,733 . The directory has delivered 5 to 6 million hits to the listed web sites.

I have verified this by looking at the referrer reports from the listed web sites.

You are right. There used to be more traffic and more revenue.

My revenue has tanked because the ad networks require tracking codes and people are using browsers that don't display ads and strip the tracking tags.

SteemIt added a hit counter. SteemIt removed it because SteemIt posts get a pathetic amount of traffic. I've put hit counters on my posts. The links I tracked received about 3 hits per post.

The directory has delivered 5 to 6 million hits to the listed web sites.

So, it's safe to assume you get at least the same amount of traffic, per year as you said before.

Yet your site is nowhere on alexa. For reference, Leo which only now has about 5k views a day has a ranking of 155,075. With 5 million views a year, your site has about triple the views a day. Yet you are #5,492,735

Please cut the bullshit. I am not a noob at digital point, looking for the next crap make me rich ebook to buy.

I don't use Alexa and I don't use Googleanalytics. Both of these programs are skewed to groups engaged in aggressive marketing.

If I loaded the Alexa tool bar. The site would leap in its Alexa rating. If I put the google tracking bits on the site, it's page rank would rise as well.

I dislike both tools.

The core of my business was charities and artists. They rarely use the Alexa tool bar. You might notice that everything is dated on that site.

Back in like something like 2010, Google issued a proclamation that they would penalize web sites that paid for listings in directories. So, I let this particular project slide.

I could install the Alexa tool bar and it would probably jump to position 300,000.

Again, reminder this is not 2005. Alexa has long moved on and its tracking no longer solely relies on the toolbar. Yeah, its not perfect yet but it's quite close to real. Go install it on thousands of pcs. Chances are it won't jump at all. And thats because you are full of BS. I doubt your site even gets 10 views, and if it does it's probably from you updating and the idiots that still buy links on link directories.

I have put thousands of links to the platform this year.

Also, if that's true, allow me to question the quality of said backlinks and if they had any meaningful impact. I can buy on fiver millions of spam links for 5 bucks that would probably do more harm than good. Thousands of quality links though? By a human person? I doubt it.
