RE: Weekend-engagement week 13: Ask me anything

So one problem is voting then waiting to comment is losing or forgetting that you were going to comment. So the AMA question:

Do you have a good restaurant where you live that you enjoy the food from? Will they go off menu for a special dinner dish you want?

For my wife and I we have a restaurant that is very good, and has some very good cooks. The food is very well prepared and always very tasty. They do not have an extensive dinner selection menu but it is pretty varied.

Dinner for me this early evening was the Spaghetti Squash Enchiladas, their current vegetarian dish and it is a favorite of mine when I am not desiring some protein at dinner.

For my wife, she loves noodles and pasta, problem is they only have Pasta Primavera very infrequently, and when they do it is fantastic. They will how ever go out of their way to make custom dinner for their customers. So for my wife this evening, it was Pasta Primaveria with Su-jet meatballs, tailored veggies, (squash, cauliflower, broccoli and then sliced red peppers) with a creamy sauce.

Does anyone else have a restaurant that will do this for their customers? Mind you my wife and I are no where near rich, tonight's bill came to only $62.00 USD. A pretty reasonable price in Alaska for a fine dining meal.

Great question.

So, Faith and I don't eat out too much for dinner as it can be quite expensive to do so. We do have a few lunches though and we go to a cafe not too far away that have a set menu sort of thing. They do that to save cost of course, but it is all home made on site.

I've had just about everything there which I really enjoy but sometimes I want something different, something they have to make up for me. Because I go there a lot they do so and are happy to do it for me. It's really a nice spot, good atmosphere and music, friendly, and they treat us like one of the team, as such.

So yes, we have a little spot, but it's lunch not dinner.

One of their dishes. Just a simply breakfast, but tasty. $16AUD with a flat white coffee. (Scrambled eggs on toasted rye and avocado.) Not on the menu.

Looks good, it is nice being a regular at a non-franchised food place that uses real ingredients. our little place tries to get as much as possible from local sources also.

Yes, exactly...Chain eateries tend to work to a formula whilst small places like this tend to work with seasonal produce and whatever they can find that looks good.

I don't have. I used to, but... It closed. It was a terrific Mom and Pop Mexican spot that I just loved. Run by a couple and her 2 sisters. Turns out both halves of the couple had fidelity issues. One of the sisters got deported because her kid got caught selling dope out of her house and it just went away.

They would occasionally go off menu, generally for Pazole, my favorite Mexican dish. About 6 of us would meet for coffee every day. After a year of drinking their coffee I felt I knew them well enough to ask if I could tune up their coffee machine. Then it was perfect!
