Happiness in a small sip

in Weekend Experiences3 years ago (edited)

We all want happiness, to be happy. I've often thought about what makes me happy and I've often wondered if I know what happiness is. Because you have to understand the meaning of the word well so that you can say, safe in the knowledge that you are not wrong, if and when you are or have been happy!

I looked it up in the dictionary...

happiness (noun)
1: a state of well-being and contentment: JOY
b: a pleasurable or satisfying experience

... and I found that my understanding is close to this definition, so I can go further.

My opinion is that happiness is directly proportional to the passions and hobbies you have. More hobbies = more happiness!

I think I am one of the (happy) people with many passions, from which it follows logically that I am happy more often. That's why it's hard to choose just one thing that makes me happy at the weekend. It's hard and it's not hard, I realized in the end that I thought about that happiness that is repeatable and that I don't get bored of, daily happiness, but that has a greater intensity on the weekend.

Coffee!

Happiness is consumed in small sips.

To be more precise, it's about cappuccino, this way of brewing coffee in a softer, more velvety way. I can say more feminine.

A good cappuccino, as I understand it, is made up of two espresso shuttles, only Arabica coffee, of origin, on top of which a layer of quality milk foam is placed! It must be drunk without sugar.

With each sip, just dip your lips in the warm milk foam and smell the warm milk aroma. Then, trying a more vigorous swallow, your mouth fills with the aroma and strength of the coffee. For me, there is no more enjoyable taste experience!

In general, in all coffee shops, the cappuccino is the same size. A size that is too small for me now. Luckily, I found a café in Bucharest, the city where I live, that sells three sizes: small, large, and grande.

For my taste, the small one is too... small and the grand one is too big (for now).

The large size is the right one!

I like to drink sip by sip trying to prolong as long as possible the pleasure and happiness of always having a good cappuccino and loved ones nearby.

Every Sunday my wife goes to church, actually a small monastery over three hundred years old, in the center of the city.

Although the religious service is not long (only two hours), and is of high quality and refinement, I am not a fan and I do not like to accompany it... but my wife found the solution.

Sunday coffee at our favorite cafe, Coffee Shop, halfway between our house and the monastery.

Victory Square is a starting point for our walks around the city.

Thus, cappuccino (coffee) is what makes me happy every weekend!

I started drinking coffee about fifty years ago. Little and shy at the beginning, when we had guests and coffee was a delicacy that could not be missed, more for the feeling that I had outgrown adolescence and was a man too. This is happening in Romania, a communist country at the time, a country cut off from the rest of the world and where such delicacies were rare and hard to find.

In those days, the method of preparing coffee was in a kettle and we put in quite a lot of sugar. The coffee I had access to was not of good quality and then the sugar made it seem tastier.

For decades I drank coffee without much attention, I understood its stimulating effect, and it became a habit. I drank coffee every morning before going to work and then, after a while, I got used to drinking coffee at work too, most of the time for the break I took from work.

Because I used to make my own coffee and didn't go to coffee shops, I didn't notice the changes that went through both the preparation of coffee and the quality of the coffee beans, the way they were roasted, and the multitude of tastes and aromas. I discovered this in Iasi, an important city in Romania, where I lived for a year, in 2019.

In Iasi, I found the right cafe, the right people (barista), and the best cappuccino. It remained my reference. Since 2020, when I left Iasi, I've been looking for a similar cafe and can't find it. This cafe "Coffee Story" remained my nostalgia, just like the nostalgia of my childhood or youth!

Here was the God of coffee. Iasi is a very beautiful and interesting city. Full of history, full of art, full of greenery, full of young people... and I only remember coffee!

It was only after I left there that I realized what I had lost. Since then...

I'm looking for that cappuccino from Iasi, I'm looking for it on all my holidays abroad, in Greece, Thassos Island...

...and in Bulgaria, in Balchik.

I'm looking for that cappuccino both in Bucharest and in other places in the country, such as Sibiu...

... but I can't find what I want, although all these places offered good cappuccino. But something is missing and now I don't know if this is real or just in my imagination!

My morning coffee is indeed a pleasure for me:) Those times I have been able to have a coffee in a European plaza ... even more so:)

@bluemoon I'd like to feature your blog today ... can I use a photo as a thumbnail?

I'm glad we have similar pleasures. Let's let coffee unite us!
Of course, you can use any photo, it's a joy for me that you liked it.

Well, I'm in my early 30s but I still dont drink coffee as a regular drink, every day.
I drink it when I need to (for tiredness), I drink it when I'm in the mood for a coffee and mostly, I drink it in vacations.

At home, I'm not a coffee person, but a tea person.
And yet, when I drink coffee I enjoy it.

And...and the most important..I ONLY drink Cappuccino. So I get you!
We have in Arad Tucano Coffee where they serve a good cappuccino (for my taste). Not being a coffee drinker I'm not sure I can yet tell the difference between a good cappuccino or an ordinary one. 🤣😁

Your cappuccinos look great, especually the one in Iasi. Remind me of the cup of cappuccino from Tucano. I think you may have it in Bucharest too.

AnD now I WOULD kill for a cappuccino! Hmm..

Coffee becomes an addiction, I have found that. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be as harmful as other well-known addictions.
You are very young! Time will tell if you will become a coffee (cappuccino) addict or not. I think you will.
On Victory Avenue there is a Tucano Coffee that looks very nice, maybe that's why I didn't go in there. I prefer coffee shops a bit more "usual", which are not necessarily very pretentiously decorated, but I'm probably wrong here. On my next walk, I will "betray" my coffee shop and go to Tucano. Then I will write the second part of the Victory Avenue presentation, to write my impressions of Tucano. I think they make a good cappuccino.

AnD now I WOULD kill for a cappuccino!

Thank you! This is proof that I didn't make this post in vain.

Sorry for my late reply! Its been four hard busy days, with Caleb sick and also some other stuff.
The only good thing happened this week it was we going to the cinema to the movie Avatar. The way of water.

And yes, I almost wanted to buy a cappuccino tat night, after reading your post. I had to go out around 6p.m. and I thought to buy one...
So yeah. Your post really marked me and the desire of having a good cappuccino.

As you said, time will tell but I dont see myself becoming a coffee addict because somewhere in my head I have the strong will of not wanting to be dependent on stuff like foods. I mean I dont want to need having a cup of coffee everyday. Makig a coffee everyday this life, would got me tired. I dont know how to say it differently. I dont want to have the habit of having a coffee everymorning and in case this wont happen, to be like a ghost around the house. I dont want to be in the situation : " Hey hurry up. We need to go".
And I'm like "wait, it will take 10 min more. I have to drink my coffee".
Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to say here.

I'm not necsesarily a fan of fancy coffee shops. I drink cappuccino from whatever place. It just have to have a great taste. And yet, I hope you like tucano. I dont drink it very often, just when I'm around. But I do like it. Also they have something called Creme brulle coffee. That is my favorite, though its kind of sweet for my taste. But i aleays tell them to pour only half of the sugar syrup.

I'm really curious if you like it and if you dont, I'm sorry for recommended it to you. I think its not that bad trying another cappuccino in another place. Hehe.
Only this is how we found good stuff.

First of all please don't talk about the rope in the hanged man's house.
I am so late with replies, I have three extensive comments of yours from last year that I have failed to respond to. The important things I leave to do when I have enough time for them and that rarely happens. I'll respond, although you may not be interested in my too-late response.

I'm sorry the kid was cold and I hope he is much better now, I don't know why everything seems to be going for the worse now and I fear our children and grandchildren will have a harder world to live in.

As for the coffee, surely you know better. Coffee is often an excuse, not a pleasure in itself and it's an addiction that, if I think about myself, is easy to get over.
There is a Tucano right in the center of Bucharest, on Calea Victoriei, near the Royal Palace. It looks good, maybe too good and that's why I didn't go in there until now. And I prefer a place with quality products, quality people, and that I like, no matter what the arrangement looks like. I wanted to go there tomorrow but my schedule was changed, my wife and a good friend want to go visit the Theodor Pallady house and museum which is in a different part of town than Tucano Coffee.

I, like you, am afraid to make too intense recommendations of places or things I like because... tastes differ. As for me and Tucano, I'm sure I'll love it.

Once again thank you and have a great weekend!

I grew up always seeing a cup of coffee in out table as my parents are addicted with it. My mother would have her first cup early in the morning, noon, afternoon and even at night after lunch. And me as a young age, seeing the coffee jar empty, makes me felt sad 😢

Why? It simply means, my parents don't have money! As this is one of the priority to be buy at home.
Thus seeing the opposite means happiness! As I am sure we won't starve on the next days

So yes, having a cup of coffee is happiness. Thus, sometimes it is also by choice.
Happy weekend!

We all want to live our life happily, but unless there are difficulties in life, one cannot fight with life. You city looks so beautiful and also cafe looks so amazing. I always drink coffee at home once a day. Outdoor looks of this cafe is impressive.
