The path less trodden.

By nature, I’m a contrarian. Rules and regulations? Little use for them. They’re for other people.

Of course, if a door says push, I don’t go around pulling. That'd just be silly. But recently, out walking the dogs, I found my path blocked by a fence with a sign that read Road Closed. Did I turn back? Did I heck as like! I slipped my lithe, lean body around the obstruction and carried on, as any sensible person would.

The truth is, most rules are redundant. Those inclined to behave well don’t need them, and those they’re meant to restrain don’t obey them anyway.

That doesn’t mean I consider myself free of obligation and restraint. Quite the opposite. With liberty comes responsibility, which is why so many people fear it and prefer to follow rules. And while I’ve broken countless rules in my long life, I’ve never done anything wrong. I follow my conscience, unlike so many who seem blind to theirs.

Now, I do have blackout blinds in my bedroom, which means I always wake up in pitch darkness. If I went blind overnight, I wouldn’t even know until I stepped onto the landing. Then, in the shock of realisation, I’d probably topple straight down the stairs and die instantly. On the bright side, I wouldn’t have long to miss anything.

Speaking of beds, the most fun I ever had in one was as a child, when my younger sibling and I played a game called Maggie and Kenny under the bedclothes. One of us would impersonate a neighbour, and the other had to guess who. Why we played it under the covers, I’ll never know. But be kind. Entertainment options were scarce back then. The television shut off at 11:30.

My favourite Hiver wouldn’t know anything about that. He’s just a young buck, but being Irish, he’s a positive riot. Go on, admit it! We Irish are far funnier than the rest of you. He’s got the head of Barry Gibb and the body of Johnny Weissmuller, and I only hope that with enough practice, I might one day be half as good as him. I even moved to this county just to be close enough to bask in the warm glow of his humour. I hope he reads this, though I know my adulation is unrequited.

I'd love to tag him, but that's against the rules.

prompt asking .. If you went blind overnight what aspects of your life would you miss the most and why?
Without naming or tagging them, who is the Hive user you like the most and why.
Do you think you (personally) should follow rules and direction or not?
What’s the most fun you've had in bed?

The images are mine.

There is that word again...

Someday I might get curious enough to L👀k up the meaning... someday

Hahaha, I love him, he loves me not...unrequited!

🤔

With liberty comes responsibility, which is why so many people fear it and prefer to follow rules.

True, that's why I try to follow the rules if there are any because if i am given free will and do any mess up then the blame is on me most probably. But if I go with the rules and regulation, and things doesn't go as indented, I'm less likely to be blamed as i followed the rules.

The trouble with rules is how utterly arbitrary they are. One day you can grab a rod and go fishing, the next you need a licence. One day it’s one mask, the next it’s two. It’s a full-time job just keeping up with the latest nonsense. If you're still following yesterday's rules, you're probably breaking one of today's.

If you're still following yesterday's rules, you're probably breaking one of today's.

True, I have learnt this the hard way.

That's some picture at the top of the page. And, by the way...your self portrait from last week. Nobody mentioned the ears! Got one of my predictable (for your blogs) chuckles out of that.

Rules. I'm not surprised to read that you disregard those that seem irrelevant to your life. That's one advantage of living out in the boondocks. Less people around to make rules and impose them.

Thanks for the entertainment, as usual.

I've found some fabulous murals in a little alley in Dublin, appropriately called Liberty Lane, where the graffiti artists work.

Ah, those ears! As a child, God help me, I used to sellotape and stick them back with Bostik, but nothing would hold them. Thank goodness we didn't have super glue back then:)

I had a friend on another platform whose account was @apathlesstrod. Everyone used to call her Trod.

I suppose we all have our crosses to bear:) And it's better than Trog!

unrequited

Noted!

You don't live in Ireland? Now I'm confused...

I absolutely share your position about rules. They're necessary for some people, they need the structure to feel save and have guidance as they're not capable to be "good" on their own, which is a shame, but a reality, too. Common sense is the best replacement for rules, yet the ability to activate and use it is fading by the minute. And unfortunately, instead of letting nature do it's thing, there are more and more safety measurements put out to help survive those genes and even let them propagate, raising another generation with even less common sense. But it's fine. Everything is going to be fine. Always fine.

Looks like I'm designated teacher of English to you foreigners:)

Yes, I do live in Ireland. Perhaps you're mistaking the word county for country?

I agree. Common sense is being regulated out of existence.

Yes, my brain just added the "r". Tired brain is no good brain. But it was worth it! The reason it's tired, I mean.

Trying to assimilate all the wisdom in my learned post, was it?

trodden, i had to translate this, first time i read this word 😄

The truth is, most rules are redundant. Those inclined to behave well don’t need them, and those they’re meant to restrain don’t obey them anyway.

that's so true, common sense should be enough rather than rules

The more rules we have, the less we need to exercise our common sense, so we lose it and then we need rules:)

You have a good point and that makes indeed sense, it might even be done on purpose to sum up rules

I'm with you, a rebel, there'll be no rules for me.
The best fun I've had in bed, well it's probably with my girls, having a pillow fight.
And yes us Irish are feckin funnier than anyone else lol
I know who you're talking about and I agree, although I haven't had the pleasure of seeing his body lol.
xxx

Hahaha, you're missing out big time! He revealed all in his blog of 4 days ago.

Ah, the contrarian spirit in full swing. Dodging Road Closed signs, following your conscience rather than the rulebook, that’s living with style.🤗

Oh I know! For my next act of rebellion, I'm going to exit through the entrance:)

Haha! Exiting through the entrance. Now that’s how legends are made, quiet rebellion with maximum impact.😅

This was an interesting read

I don't believe you!:)

How should I prove it to you?

With some mathematical equation, like E = mc².

Lol 😂😂
